i got a sewing machine for christmas last year and have made a few things but every project takes an age as the tension keeps changing so the thread all bunches up when sewing so i have to rip out and start again. iv tried lots of different stitches at different tensions iv re done bobbins incase they are to loose or tight but thats as far as my knowledge goes so im stumped. i love sewing but cant get into it when a simple dress is taking a week instead of 2 days its super frustrating.
my sister is expecting a baby in feb and i want to surprise her with a hamper of hand made goodies. help

I was having similar trouble, with skipped stitches and wobbly bobbin thread. If you have a drop in bobbin you can try altering that tension by turning the screw on the bobbin plate a very small amount. Try that then alter more if necessary. I couldn't tell you which way though. Otherwise take it for a service. Hope this helps.

nearlydunne - what make and model is your machine?
Did it come with a booklet?

Hi everyone I am desperately trying to find a curtain maker in the Manchester (northenden) surrounding area! I have the material etc but I'm finding ppl/companies online are way too expensive. Does anyone know of someone who can help???

Nickyjohns25 Have you tried looking on your local shop notice boards? People with qualifications will say what they are (and dont be afraid to ask them).
Or go into your local dry cleaners to ask. If theres no sewing machine in the
dry cleaners then they send out their work to, most likely, a local worker. (What I did years ago).

Sorry, I'm not in Manchester so cannot help you.
What type of curtains did you want? In my experience, a tape heading is less expensive than eyelets or hand pinch pleats. Lined curtains are easier than interlined ones where, with 3 layers its mainly hand sewing.
What material have you chosen - is it easy to work with and if you have already got it have you got enough, to allow for hems, etc.

Would you consider having a go making them yourself?
