My Big Shot has broken....

I just don't believe it...having waited all this time for the much coveted Big Shot to arrive, there I was merrily cutting out some bits and bobs...and the perspex plates have broken!! How annoying is that???!!! Seems to be a design fault...anyone else got cracks on their perspex plates yet??? Mine started cracking within the first few times of cutting...then finally snapped in half. I am so upset with my new toy...

snap

not quite literally, but almost. one of them has a big crack running through it. i can however stilluse it, just. I have spoken to Jimmy and he says that he is waiting for some to 'come in' and will get them to me asap. where did you but yours from MM?

pootlepod · 11/01/2006 14:02

Errrrm. Something rings a bell here. At one time, I was discussing the BS with someone, who informed me that the first batch did have to be sent away because of an undisclosed design fault. At the time I poo poohed it, but maybe, just maybe this is a teething problem. I think I would actually phone Ellison designs and ask before anything else.

But am bloody sorry to hear it as I was so excited about you lot getting one

Dingle · 11/01/2006 17:31

I know of someone else online who has had a problem with hers. Luckily enough her supplier had part of her demo BS that she replaced it with...not sure what part it was though.

My friend from around the corner got her BS the other day, was supposed to be getting together today but what with my mum being back in hospital I had too much running around to do to go and play!

Pixiefish · 11/01/2006 18:01

It's a fault with a lot of them I think. Have heard of loads of people who've had this happen to them and then when they get replacement plates there's no problem.

flippin nuiscance though eh

madmollie · 11/01/2006 19:16

Hi all...sorry, been busy this arvo.. Got mine from the, u,, er, same source as you I think...in Rugby?? My perspex plates cracked, and it was only a few more "goes" on the machine before they split in half....now I have four plates instead of two.. I am soooooooooo cross, as I have just started a project for someone to take back to Oz with them on 20th Jan. I didn't order it straight from Rugby, but a friend of mine ordered several at the same time...so there's no point me contactin Rugby myself as I have no paperwork. Am waiting to see via this mate what I should do..send whole thing back...or the plates...UCM...I reckon you are right about design fault..I am so cross about it as it was a Christmas pressy from DH - which as you all know took ages to get here in the first place. Wondering now if I should have just ordered an Origninal Sizzix in the first place..

sounds like that may have been the fault mr RC was talking about

madmollie · 14/01/2006 09:18

Yep....seems that 8 out of every ten machines are breaking in this way... Have been promised that new "plates" will be sent out as soon as they have them. Annoying though, as I only ever got to use it about ten times!!! All twenty of my new dies all sitting there waiting to be used!!! - how frustrating!!

madmollie...when did you last speak to Jimmy? I was going to ring again but I will leave it if you have spoken to him recently.

i want to order some of the thick cuts but I think it is best to wait until i can use them.

madmollie · 14/01/2006 15:00

AQ As my friend ordered two at the same time- my friend has done all the dealings with him so far. I think that was on Wednesday, and was told that they are awaiting supplies of these plate things to arrive. That's as much as I know I'm afraid. Just hope that enough plates will be sent over, and that these do not go the same way as the others...!!

AuntyQuated · 22/01/2006 11:56

well it has finally carcked BIG time..each plate is in 3 bits

kiwibella · 22/01/2006 12:04

oh, gosh AQ - will it be replaced? It sounds like this has happened to a few of you which is a shame after all the anticipation.

soapbox · 22/01/2006 19:48

Mine has completely gone now too

God knows how long until the plates come!

anorak · 22/01/2006 20:03

When I was at Thorpe Park today I watched a demonstration of the big shot. The demonstrator's perspex plates were cracking! Someone asked him about it and he admitted that even he thinks it's daft that they've used that material for the plates. The sizzix ones don't crack, why don't they use that material?

Pixiefish · 22/01/2006 20:22

Does anyone know if this is an issue ion the tagalong?

kiwibella · 22/01/2006 20:36

so, sizzix or big shot... whaddayareckon?

Hi, Getting a bit worried about this now . Had just decided to buy a Big Shot but what's all this about the plates breaking. I'm worried now that I'll be wasting my money. By the way does anyone know of a better deal that £75 inc P&P from rugbycrafts? Thanks

AuntyQuated · 23/01/2006 07:51

KB--tbh despite it's problems the big shot is loads better than the sizzix. i wouls wait until they sort the plate problem out, then go for the big shot.

bunni- i think current batches of big shot have better plates. i think there may be better deals about, but i'm not sure.

I use cheapdies all the time and have for a couple of years, free P&P on orders over £10.00. Good customer care, you get phone calls if there's a problems, competitive prices, quick delivery, really good company.

Carolinett · 25/01/2006 11:21

"Touch wood" my Big Shot has been fine so far. After being let down, I got mine from a craft shop I buy my envelopes and bits & bobs from in Chester Market.
Guess I've been lucky so far, mind you I haven't hammered it yet.
