Hello,

Do any of you lovely ladies have suggestions for books that contain sewing projects that aren't cushions, curtains or clothes? I've got Sew by Cath Kidston but the instructions leave a lot to be desired when you're fairly inexperienced like me. I've scanned the library shelves but came away uninspired. Any suggestions?

This one has a few cushions in but also pot holders, table runners, bags, make-up bags, quilts, wallhangings, needlebooks, etc. I think it's lovely but I might be biased cos I love patchwork.

Thanks, Crafty. I'm not that into patchworking, but will check it out nonetheless.

Any other suggestions?

A book with patterns (like the Cath Kidston one) would be a bonus!

Does it have to be a book? There are tutorials for just about everything on t'internet, mostly via pinterest...

ooh, I have just got a pinterest account but not really too sure how it works (got it mainly to remind me of things I see and want for future reference). Will check it out further, tnanks

Here's a bunch of tutorials that I know of, there are loads of people with boards full of tutorials on there. It depends what you're interested in - that one is mostly sewing projects.

Thanks again. I am loving pinterest - found several things to make already; isn't it lovely when someone else does the hard work of finding projects for you!

Weekend Sewing is a great book as bran mentioned. Amy Butler's in stitches has lots of great patterns, mostly things for the home and well written. The new Liberty sewing book is lovely, so too is Sew sunny homestyle. I love Martha Stewarts website and great tutorials and The Purl Bee has fabulous free patterns and tutorials.

This book is nice, I don't own it but have looked through it in the bookshop, and keep thinking I might buy it. It has some really nice things in, like a thing that hangs on a door, with rows of pockets on it, for storing bits and bobs. Can't remember what else off the top of my head, but there are embroidery templates and instructions too so you can personalise what you make.

There used to be a Readers' Digest one which covered all sorts of sewing techniques. It's probably out of print, but should still be possible to get copies - I got mine from a charity shop.
