Crotched baby blanket

I want to crotchet a baby blanket (probably just stripes), but I'm undecided as to what yarn to use.

I would like to make it as luxurious as possible, but also want it to be practical for his mum so she isn't afraid to wash it if need be. Any recommendations?

Sirdar snuggly is a super soft acrylic that is machine washable and can be tumble dried. It comes in lots of pastels and bright colours.

For a simple baby blanket you can't go wrong with making a huge granny square with a different colour for each round - looks really effective!

I made one out of Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo. It was lovely - felt cotton like and had a wonderful weight to it. Machine washable at 40 but can't be tumble dried (or ironed but I can't see that being an issue! I did actually iron it on a one dot setting and it was fine)

Here it is. I made 36 squares.

That's lovely SoupDragon I have not got anywhere with the crochet yet. But I have finished a couple of knits lately and even put pics on Ravelry They are rubbish, but hey, it's progress.

I taught myself in July and made that over the summer. It was so easy - nothing complicated to it at all, it just looks like it! I also discovered lots of mistakes when sewing it up but the beauty is that no one including me) will ever spot them. It is soooo forgiving!

I see the blanket every day on the school run so it's certainly usable :)

I found doing squares less daunting than a whole blanket at once.

Tension is the main problem with my crochet. Even the foundation chain is the wonkiest thing you even saw.

I was knitting very very tight when I started but it has evened out a bit with practice, just feel like I am too clumsy for crochet. Am going to keep trying though.
