Good ideas for presents to make for a 4 year old boy?

I'm after easy and quick-ish ideas for making something for a young boy, about 4 years old.

Anyone got any good ideas/links? I can crochet and sew but not knit!

An animal shaped hat? A felt glove puppet in the shape of a lion or dragon?

Does he like cars? I made one of these for my godson who had a lot of waiting around to do at hospital appointments. His mum could carry it in her handbag even, and hey presto cars on tap!

Robot and Spaceboy went down well with the little boy I made them for.

Not sure if dinosaurs are of any interest - have you seen those dino hoodies? Basically you sew triangles of material as spikes down the hood and back of a sweatshirt.

I'll try and find it online if you like the idea but I'm on my phone so it may be a bit tricky to do a link!

Oh that reminds me! I once made my nephew a dinosaur sweatshirt by sewing padded spikes down the back of an ordinary one and adding a tail :)

drawstring back pack

I have made a few of these but I tend to add an inch or two to the measurements as the ones given make quite a small bag - perfect for a toddler but not-so-good for an older child. I sometimes also add a pocket to the front by cutting out another front piece & then folding it in half.

(I actually have another 4 cut out & ready to sew, hopefully tonight)

i made a car playmat for ds one year, it has a draw string round the edge so it can be made into a bag for storage.

Ooh, some really good ideas, thanks. Love the playmat - not sure if I will have time (or the skills) to do something like that though.

and another quickie - a crayon roll

A personalised heat pad -

for example I've just finished a Truck one for a slightly younger boy

Use a piece of cotton cloth, denim, cord, etc etc

draw a basic shape onto paper, as an inch all round to allow for filling to reduce size & then add another cm for the seam allowance

use this pattern piece to cut out your fabric - use pinking shears around the edges as the seams are outside & this becomes part of the design & makes it simpler to finish

Using fabric crayons, pens or paints, decorate your front piece fabric - ie draw & colour in the front of a truck

on the back piece, you can draw the back of the truck & put his name in the number plate - iron to seal in the colours

sew around edges about 1cm in from edge - leave a small hole & using a funnel - fill with barley or wheat - close the hole under the machine

pop in microwave & heat up - small size 1 - 1,1/2 minutes, bigger size 4 - 4

You can do any design you like, fit it in with the DCs favourite things & these work brilliantly as hot water bottles, or to soother toothaches, tummy aches etc :)
