Repurposing fleece blankets - what is safe?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I need to know if my idea is rubbish or not as ds1 is getting so cold at night!

I have a couple of Ikea fleeces we don't need as blankets any more and my son has outgrown his toddler sleeping bag. How would it be if I made him a new fleece sleeping bag, maybe lining it with cotton sheeting? Would it be too sweaty? He really needs something warm that will stay on him - he's a real wriggler!

And could I make pyjamas out of the fleece as well? He has a 1tog sleepsuit made out of fleece so I was hoping it would work but I'm not sure if there are different sorts of fleece.

I think childrens' bed clothing and beddiing are meant to be from fire-tested, retardant fabrics, see www.bis.gov.uk/files/file48151.pdf

I don't know much about it, just remember seeing something about it on TV many moons ago.

I don't know but a lot of COTTON I've bought from the US says "NOT TO BE USED FOR CHILDREN'S SLEEP WEAR" on it so I think maybe its one area where I might not use old fabrics

Thanks for the responses...

Wow - I am surprised by that labelling grumplestilskin. I'm sure the fleece blankets were intended for use on a bed, so they should have the same safety standards applied. I'm hoping that side will be alright. What I'm a bit worried about is the potential for sweatiness. Mind you - he IS only 2!

Ikea fleeces are MUCH cheaper than buying fleece by the metre - are they really any different?

I have some Ikea fleeces which I am using as blackout blinds (also for the reason that they are cheaper than fleece by the metre!), and there is a qualitative difference between it and fleece-by-the-metre.

Sorry, you have to be very careful about the materials used for bedding, especially if it might overheat small children. There is no escape from a sleeping bag, whereas a blanket lies over the top of something else, potentially slips off, etc.

Could you repurpose the fleece instead as cushion covers, hot water bottle covers, blackout blinds (muffling/insulating the windows), etc.?
