Should I learn to knit or Crochet?

I can knit and pearl but that's about it. I'd really like a craft to do in the evenings in front of the telly or whilst listening to a book or flying. DD is 10 months and I'd love to be able to create things for her.

Which do you prefer and why please :)

Both! Crochet CAN be more mindless but it is "hungrier" when it comes to wool or other yarn used. Knitting can be more of a learning curve but when you have been doing it a while that is part of its appeal - there is always a better way to cast on, decrease, add ease etc, and sites like "techknitter" are a wealth of technique tips.
I prefer the finished product of knitting, but love that I can crochet embellishments and trims as well. It is lovely to knit for your daughter - I highly recommend this Smile

I like both but crochet is SO much faster that I tend to do that more. It does take more wool though.

Thank you :) I have the debbie bliss baby learn to knit book (or whatever it's called). Is there a good book you can push me in the direction of for crocheting?

I can't speak for knitting but beware! Crochet is very addictive. I crochet everywhere now...you have been warned Smile

I prefer crochet.

it is down to personal preference :)

I like crochet because it only has one hook and as the hook is short, it takes up very little space in my bag.

And because can't knit.

Should you learn to Knit or crochet? YES!!

Me prefer to knit but maybe that's cos I find crochet from a pattern tricky

As an activity I prefer crochet because it is more portable and less likely to have problems if you get interrupted half way through a row and have to put it down. I find crocheted stuff looks a bit samey though, a bit retro, knitting gives more scope for different looks IMO. So it depends whether you primarily want it for something to do or for the end product. Indeed if you love the look of crocheted stuff it might not be a problem, but it doesn't really suit my home decor all that well or the way I dress.

I've just started doing both! I don't really understand knitting patterns and as yet haven't tried anything too adventurous but have managed to crochet flowers and hearts and have only been doing it since Saturday! I find crochet more fun, because you use your fingers I think it's a bit more like fiddling with things which I seem to like. Am I weird? Written down that looks weird!
