How much to make cushion covers?

I am starting out as a textile designer and want to get some cushion covers made with the fabric I've designed. Do you crafty people have any idea how much someone might pay to make say 20? I know it will depend on exact specifications but I have no idea! Thanks!

Do you mean you want someone to make you some covers with your fabric? It varies but I would guess that it would cost about the same as getting some curtains made...so between 30 and 100 pounds. It's fiddly because it's 20 different items...each one requiring a closure.I advise you to go for a simple envelope one and use cheaper plain or contrasting fabric for the back..so you're not wasting your own more expensive print on the back and then there are no zips or buttonholes to deal with for the seamstress.

You could ask around amongst friends and neighbours....I know at least 3 people capable of sewing cushion covers on their machines. That would bee cheaper than going to a cutain maker....which you often see advertised in the bck of local papers.

Very helpful - thank you. Yes, that's exactly what I want to do. I will ask around but I don't hold out much hope with my friends - I'm supposed to be the crafty one! Thanks again.

Are you on Spoonflower? As for sewing them....I was always scared of sewing machines....but then I bought a really basic one and it's easy! I can manage abasic bag, cushion, child's dress etc....yo ought to think about tying as your profits will suffer if you're paying for small quntities all the time.

Another option would be to buy plain cushion covers and sew the self-designed fabric to the front panel.

For envelope style closures, 15" X 15" square cushion covers, the front done in your fabric, the back in a plain fabric....probably about £7-8 each.

As mentioned envelope style would be the cheaper option, quicker to sew as no zip required. With zips around £10 each, a friend has lots made for her by an upholster.

You really need to decide what sort of cushion cover that you want... envelope, zip or button. piped, size and so on.

Whereabouts are you based, would be happy to show you how to do it... remember it is just straight line sewing and you can certainly do that!

You are all VVV helpful. I am going to do a bit if research and look at different cushion styles. Never really thought so much about cushions before! I am convinced tho that I need someone to run them up for me. They need to look professional and mine won't!
