Learn to knit kit for a 9 year old

My 9 year old dd has expressed an interest in learning to knit and whilst I have been able to show her the stitches I thought it would be good to get her a kit that has all she needs to get started as a christmas pressie. Are there any good ones out there? I found this online but thought it was quite pricey for what you get. Are there any better ones?

I thiink that's very expensive. I had a look on Amazon, but they are all quite pricey, but not as expensive as that.

I saw a nice Usborne teach yourself to knit book which I bought as a birthday present for one of Ds's friends - several patterns including scarf, hat, bags etc.

Thanks mistlethrush. I'll have a search for it. I presume you need to get the equipment separately. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I bought a child's bag from cath kidston, some children's needles and a ball of nice coloured wool from a wool shop. If you buy double knitting wool, size 3.25mm and 4mm needles will be perfect. Dd was delighted...although she has still to learn to knit Wink. The kit you linked to is lovely, but expensive. What I described would be £15 ish with nice quality wool but you could definitely do it cheaper.

This is the book although I paid £5 for it - I then got some bamboo 4.5mm needles and a ball of decent wool so that the present recipient could knit the easiest project (a scarf) without having to get anything extra.

I also bought the usborne book-it's lovely. But to start with all she'll need is someone to show her the basic stitch.

I was looking at this for DD

That looks good-it also takes the pressure off if they find knitting itself tricky to start with. My dd is finding sewing instantly satisfying but is still not ready for the time it takes before knitting is gratifying!

I sort of thought that I would have a shot at the crochet/dolly thingy too as I never quite got it as a child. Blush

Don't worry-if it was French knitting you were hankering after, all I've got to show for my misspent youth is a ball of the stuff that I never quite got round to sewing into, well a circle I guess!

Think it was French knitting, bloody French! Grin I had one of those dolly things with the 4 prongs at the 'head' not a clue!

My mums friend showed me how to crochet, saying it was so much easier than knitting, not for me it wasnt Blush
