Crochet help.....

I have never done this in my life. I can knit (the very basics!) and my nana used to do some amazing crochet pieces from really intricate little mats and cloths to big colourful chunky blankets - which is what I'd love to make - a poorly blanket for my children! Where do I start? I bought a 4mm hook and some yarn today to have a play but would be greatful if anyone could recommed any good sites or books to help me.

Have to dash out but I would recommend video tutorials on youtube and the attic24 blog for granny squares as I'd make a blanket from squares and stitch them together. When I come back I'll post links.

this is lucy's blog here [[http://attic24.typepad.com/ attic24] it is luverly and a real inspiration for me to learn some new techniques. A 4mm hook is perfect for DK yarn so you should be fine there. How local is your library, see if they have a copy of the happy hooker or other crochet books. The happy hooker is US but it's easy to adjust to UK terms. You tube is also handy as sometimes you need to see how it's done rather than read. I spent days on youtube teaching myself to granny it up.

www.ravelry.com is a great site for patterns and general help - you can search for patterns and filter them by hook size, yarn type, difficulty etc. You can also see what other people have done with a pattern and what they think of it. There's a great forum there too with lots of helpful people Smile
