How would you make a shaped belt?

I have thick interfacing, a hot glue gun, lycra

Do i use press studs or hook & eye?

Can I copy a nice shape (somehow)?

You really need to post a picture of the type of thing you mean Katy, its a bit vague to give you any real advice, - not sure I'd recommend lycra for a belt, even with the stiffest fusing, but I might think otherwise when I know exactly what you are looking to do

I'm hiding a tatty waist band hopefully using the belt.

I was googling to try & find a shape to copy, but I couldn't find one

I guess they are very 80's really - a glorified cumberband (but a cumberband won't work in lycra)

I don't think lycra will work, for a cumberbund type of belt, satin would do.

The most important thing is to cut whatever material you do use on the cross so it will 'curve' around the waist.

Really - that's useful

I was thinking about cutting a double thickness of the interfacing, sewing the overlap of the material so there is a nice neat line of stitching all round the belt then using some lining to cover the back (with the glue gun)

Something like this would, work- could adjust to the width you wanted , if you wanted it thinner/thicker, and could tie it at the back rather than the front.

As I said befor I'd still cut the material on the cross as otherwise it probably wont sit right.

I personally woudn't advise cutting on the bias, no point if you are stiffening it & definitely don't cut lycra on the bias,

you could get away with lycra for the OBI, so agree that's a good idea & would be easier than the cumberband, especially with lycra, but I wouldn't use a double thickness of fusing, you will likely cause yourself more problems, as it takes a lot of patience to fuse lycra without it wrinkling & bubbling any way - your best off buying a more suitable much heavier fuseable - & stitch the lining too, the glue gun won't work - hope that helps :)

This is getting complicated

Oh dear

Not really, use your lycra with the tutorial in moons link - I can't see it, so cut across width if it says bias, use a woven iron on fusing, maybe line with satin, doing that will give you a reversible belt - if you don't have a machine + want to cut down on sewing, think about using some sort of heavy ribbon or cord trim for the ties :)

OK I am nearly there

I have cut 2 pieces of interfacing

I have cut 2 pieces of satin (it looked better than the lycra)

I am going to glue a hem round the edge of each piece of interfacing then sew them together fixed with a press stud/hook & eye
