So admittedly my fab s-i-l is doing absolutely everything else, but HELP! I make my own christmas cards but don't really have any craft skills. What is your simplest bestest idea to rescue me?
Thanks craft gang.

how old are your children?

who will be sitting around the table?

ie. are your children old enough to make it and would those seeing it appreciate their efforts?

How about a terracotta flower pot with a big candle in it? Then you can go out and cut some holly, ivy, fir or spruce beanches (or even trim a couple of little bits from the bottom of your tree) and poke these into the flowerpot around the candle. You could even spray the flowerpot gold or silver, or get your children to decorate it with glitter. You could put some fir cones in as well, or apples (stick them onto a skewer or a chopstick so that it's easier to keep them in place). If you look on crocus.co.uk, they have some examples so you can see roughly what I'm talking about! Or group some big candles on a place mat and wind a couple of bendy silver birch branches into a circle around the base. Then stick some bits of holly or ivy into the branches!

?????nt will be 2, 2.5 and 5 and there will be them plus 5 adults around a table. I like the idea of terracotta pot with candle in (table big enough that grabbing child can't reach!) with all stuff around that they can help find on a Christmas Eve walk. I have gold spray and glitter spray, can buy candle and pot today.
Wow, this suddenly feels a lot more do-able! Thanks.

Ooh, sorry, don't know where the ??? came from. It was saying 'The children present will be...'

Red candle on piece of card (about sideplate size), then any greenery you can get hold of, plus pine cones if you have any. Just glue it all, spray hairspray (take out the candle for this) and add glitter. It will look lovely. Don't let the candle burn down to the stuff thought or you will get singed nose hairs.

Another similar idea. For the base use a large (plate size) flat weathered stone. A slate is ideal, and if it has some lichen on it, so much the better. Use plasticine or 'oasis' to embed the candle and seasonal greenery. Use one artificial poinsetta and use a red candle or one Christmas rose and use a white candle. Add some colour co-ordinated glitter to some petals/leaves and a curly ribbon half way up the candle (Beware-fire risk) or some fake snow adds the finishing touch.

Pacific, your idea is nice but I dont know many people who have or have access to a piece of slate, unless it's off their roof with lichen on it.

But the rest of it sounds gorgeous

going outside to check slates on roof now.

did you never make yule logs at school? get a dead (or fake, your choice) robin, sit it on a log, get a grown up to drill a big hole in one end so you can put a candle in and then cover it all in spray snow. then say the kids did it to hide your shame

goblin that is fantastic! First, kill your robin...
