Making a cushion cover-help!

Right, I am a sewing machine novice and I am making cushion covers.
They need to have that stick on velco I think as I cannot do zips.
Please help me, I have baby brain and need to make something to prove to myself I can still do unrelated baby things.

Do I measure the cushion and add a few inches? Oh Blimey help!

but for now, I'd say make your cushion size plus a seam allowance. Use buttons if you don't want to put in a zip (much easier I think and nicer than velcro). Your machine should have a button hole maker.

Why not do an envelope back, with just 2 overlapping sections - no fastenings needed. I usually measure the pad, then take off an inch to add plumpness. I use seam allowance as the width of my foot (machine foot, not my own ).
