We have just moved and need some curtains for our living room which I would like to make myself.

I need to check how much material I need, is it 2x the width of the window?

the dining area has a bay window with 3 arch windows in it.
I would like to have something plain, simple and straight with no pelmet (is that the right word) but dh thinks that it leaves the top too plain. I also don't like to have net curtains (and we don't really need them). Any ideas - If anyone is interested and has some good ideas I will put a photo up somewhere of the window.

bump for someone that knows

  • I think its 2x but don't quote me!

I think it's 2 x the width. Or at least 2 - I think I've seen 2.5 mentioned before. It doesn't look bad with less than 2 but you don't get such a good gather on them.

If you have no pelmet, it does mean you can see the ugly track then the curtains are open.

1.5 - 2.5 X width for curtains. I have a bay in the dining room too and keep changing my mind what to do in there. I'm thinking roman blinds atm.

Hmmm, blinds could be an idea, i like the idea on the PFinapt's website with the blind under the false curtains...... or I though (since the windows are arched and there is a lot of blank space above them) they could be opened fully at the top and held back with tiebacks. if the material is plain it wouldn't looktoo flouncy would it.

Thanks for your ideas

my sil has a baby window and she has cream roman blinds on the windows and then has cream with a small edged pattern on a cast iron pole looks really nice.
