Does she like Bang on the Door?

This site is reliable, I've used them before and they're very quick. There are a number of pages here of kits for beginnners.

Winblebees are good too.

I wouldn't bother going for a different count of Aida, 11 count would be good for a young beginner but at 11 I would think she'd be fine with 14 count - as long as the chart was simple enough to follow, the size of hole should be OK for an 11 year old.

I recently found the Daisy Designs website which has stuff for children. Also HCS crafts has binca starter kits by Anchor. (I'm no expert, various other MNers pointed me in the right dirrection)

oh no, don't buy bang on the door, they're by dmc, boo, hiss
get something from anchor, they're much better (i'm a cross stitch designer for them)

go to the web site that wwb has mentioned, the britishstitcher.com, click on anchor, then click on starters. these kits are all on binca, excellent for kids. there are dinosaurs for boys, butterflies etc for girls (the ones on navy are my designs)

The Bold Sheep do a good and unusual range - here

Also Jolly Red - here

So would a 16 count one be too difficult do you think?

Might be a little on the small side. I did a 16 count cross stitch kit with a 9 year old, but she needed a lot of help, it was a bit fiddly. 12 or 14 count is ideal.

anchor also do kits on 11's, this is quite a good count fabric to begin learning on
