What arts/ crafts do you do in front of the telly?

I have almost no free time so on the sofa watching tv after the dc are in bed is my only chance. I don't want to disappear off to kitchen etc as I won't see dh properly then either.
BUT I want to get back into crafts/ develop a hobby.

I can knit, sew, cross stitch, basic embroidery and have done a little crochet and patchwork before too. I think I could pick up something new fairly easily -famous last words! :)

Any suggestions?

I do all mine in front of the telly. Small children dictate it! Knitting (easy, not lace!) , hand quilting , reading craft mags

I crochet and bead. My husband has stopped complaining about the fact that I don't watch properly :D

I have begun to latch hook a rug (doormat sized). My 'problem' is I have to look blow my glasses to see the rug and through them to see the telly.

I'd get varifocals but it's a dignity issue...

Knitting, crochet, crossstitch. Not all at the same time though!

Crossstitch is definitely more difficult in front of the telly. I have recently started knitting and crocheting again, so I can do something constructive while relaxing in front of the box.

erebus - I have varifocals (my second pair) and they are great for flicking between my knitting and the telly. My last pair didn't have such a large area for close work and I had problems threading needles etc.. This pair are great, but were expensive. Don't put off getting varifocals if you need them. (Unlike bi-focals, no-one will know anyway!) They take a bit of getting used to, but I find I now wear my glasses all the time.

Crochet, did loads when I was pregnant and I have just managed to start again this week with 5 week old DD is asleep on the breastfeeding cushion. Not sure how long I will be able to though so making the most of it.

Another one for crochet. Its cosy making blankets in the winter.

i've rediscovered the christmas stockings i started last year here so i've decided that as there's almost 6 months to go i might get them finished!

i've also been inspired by her blog to start crocheting again (not done it for almost 20 years) so i've been out and got a crochet needle and some nice new wool.

i must get myself a hobby before being a mum/ maternity leave does my head in!

Crochet or a bit of sewing like fabric flowers or something. I'm not really watching the tv either more just for chatting to dh at the end of the day

The nice thing about crochet is you can pick it up and put it down anytime. There is no need to "finish a row" as in knitting. I love these Christmas stockings! Thanks for the link - I'll put them on my to-do list!

I do patchwork - either the handsewn English sort or cutting the patches for machine-made.

Knitting for me. I am a fairly new knitter and self-taught. I love knitting in front of the television. I used to crochet too. I look through my glasses at the wool and needles and then over the tops at the tv.

I have a big calendar that hangs on the wall (so in theory I can remember birthdays), which I have stiched with pretty wool. That was an in-front-of-the-telly project. Took a while to do all the days of the months but I can then update with new babies etc quite quickly.
