Teaching children to knit

My dd is 4.7 and wants to learn to knit. Is she too young?

Can anyone recommend a beginners kit for children? (if they exist). Would embroidery be easier?

Thanks

Ha ha ha
my ds is trying it and he is 11, and left handed it is driving him MAD
I remember the same frustration!
I think if you sit down and take your hands over their hands, use big needles and thick wool it can be taught - I learned to knit when age 6 and that was self taught from a little ladybird book.
Be patient though

just been speaking to a handwriting expert who was bemoaning the lack of under-5's knitting! she says it's responsible for the dire state of calligraphy in this country
(mercy - the shop is called Lenarow)

that's interesting, Bundle. Yes, I agree there should be concern about (some) children's handwriting. I wouldn't even have thought of knitting as being a solution! IMO we don't do enough of those fine motor skills.

mumsnet meet-up at Rowan's parent and child workshop next April?

piffle I am left-ahnded and don't remember it driving me mad learning to knit. What drove me mad is that it's a slow process to produce something and I'm not a slow-process kinda gal Also that I was told there was one way to knit which I have recently discovered is cobblers and you can now hold your needles, yarn, etc however you wish. Just like children now seem to be allowed to hold their pen however they wish (I have seen some bizarre penholds in DD's peers)
