Isn't that just dough? What's the recipe ?

The recipe is:
3 teaspoons of Cream of Tartar
1 cup of flour
1 cup of water
1 package of powdered jelly mix (any flavor of unsweetened)
1 tablespoon of cooking oil
1/2 cup of salt

The usual stuff has loads of salt in so wouldnt be very tasty i should imagine :)

I meant normal dough - like for biscuits or something. But wouldn't keep hence the intrigue.
Not sure I'd want my toddler eating all that salt...

nickelbabe · 16/05/2011 13:15

I would make normal dough too, like for bread, but without any salt in it.

it doesn't taste great uncooked, but it's certainly not a bad thing.

then anything you make you can cook and eat!

Blurg! Why would you want to? Even if it didn't have the huge amount of salt, it's for playing with, mauling, squishing squeezing....

just make biscuit dough to make biscuits and play dough for playing!

That sounds very sticky Grin

I think with my 2, being a bit older the whole attraction is the novelty of being able to eat it after they're finished playing with it.

we are always making cakes and biscuits and the DCs are always eating the mixture, i just thought for a change and for a bit of a novelty, edible play dough was a good idea.

Far to much salt in that recipe for children to eat.
If your children are older, teach them how to cook with proper ingredients.

we do cook, at least once a week, like i said i wanted something to do with the kids that was a bit different. Lets be honest, they're not going to eat the whole thing, its just the novelty factor.

My Dcs are 3 & 4

How about peppermint creams and coconut ice, that type of sweet
No cooking required.

neverontime · 16/05/2011 14:18

my dcs dont like peppermint or coconut.
Hence the edible play dough idea.

my kids would love it too. Sure you could experiment with any flavours. Just leave out the salt, lots of flour and shouldn't be too sticky. Like biscuit dough. Wouldn't last though - but then the kids'll be eating it anyway.
