Just wanted to say 'good luck' for tomorrow. It will be fine. If you feel stressed about it, then take a hip flask of brandy and when they say 'how much is this card' you can say 'errrr dunno, how much do you wanna pay' and still look good

Seriously, look forward to it.

Says Sarah who hasn't done hers yet.

Well - here is the post mortem folks..... I sold all of 2 cards . The only consolation is was other stalls did equally bad so I am not taking it personally
The venue was hard to find & then once in - there was no electricity after about 12.00 - no heat & no lighting. People coming in were mostly OAPs & so were more interested in knitted tea cosys . It was so cold in the room I thought about buying one as a hat!
I did get some nice comments but obviously not enough for people to put their hands in their pockets. Quite a few flyers were taken though.
Also what didn't help is that there were 2 rooms in the venue & I was in the smaller room that wasn't obvious to find ! Even seasoned stall holders said it was a very poor venue & turn out.

Oh well - I've at least got the experience now !
A nice glass of wine a bit later should see me right !

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 05/11/2005 15:52

..oh and because of failing light we all had to pack up early at 3

jayzmummy · 05/11/2005 16:02

Oh Whizz you poor thing.
I was so hoping that you would come back buzzing with tales of high sales.

Never mind.....you have done your first one now and there will be others.

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 05/11/2005 16:34

I'm just glad I didn't spend loads on fancy stands & packaging ! It was a good laugh anyway & I met some nice craft people & sampled some scrummy biscuits as I was sat next to a bic & cake stall
Not many there covered their costs though so I wasn't on my own.

UCM · 05/11/2005 18:03

Hey, you have to try again. Perhaps the school fayres cos' loads of mums N 50 something grandmas there.

Having a glass of red wine in consolation. See you should have taken the hip flask....at least you'd be pissed & poor

Thanks UCM ! It was so cold in there I needed the brandy! Having a firework party tonight so I will make up for it

I should have taken some nice double strands of plastic biddy beads - they would have sold well!

pootlepod · 05/11/2005 18:09

Awe whizzz, I'm sorry it didn't go so well. But you have made that first step and next time will be better. there is comfort in knowing that everyone else said the same too.

I think you should also complain to the organisers about the lack of signage and electricity. You paid good money for rent and this things needed to be included (IMO).

I'll have a glass with you tonight

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 05/11/2005 18:17

Yes £5 of the stall fee went towards the venue apparantly which was a bit of a cheek considering. At least I've got a nice stockpile of cards though !

C'est la vie !

UCM · 05/11/2005 18:18

Tee Hee, I didn't want to laugh with you too much cos' I thought you might be upset. But the fact that you have a sense of humour over it says it all. Well Done.

Ours is Nov 26 as its before all the Xmas concerts etc.
I will enquire about it I think - not sure if they charge or expect a %

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 05/11/2005 18:23

and don't worry UCM I am laughing about it !!

All those little old ladies with their pac-a-macs and wheelie trolleys.
"Oh Ada, look - a nice knitted toilet roll holder"

"30p ! That's a bit dear"

UCM · 05/11/2005 18:27

Gabbits. Thats wot I say. Mind you as I don't drive I am think of using one of them trolleys to take cards to fayres. The old gabbit [bless 'er] next door has a lovely tartan one I can borrow. And I am serious! My mates are going to take a photo cos' they don't believe I will do it. I could use a suitcase on wheels but my fimo will get shaken about and might fall off. Are you on MSN

OP posts:
WhizzzBangWhizzz · 05/11/2005 18:29

No - never had a go on that new fangled MSN thing
I should be getting ready for our firework party but I'm just chilling at the mo.
Otherwise poople will come round & I'll drink far too much too quickly

UCM · 05/11/2005 18:35

Go girl! You are lucky we planned to take DS(2) to the fireworks but he is absolutely terrified. So at this moment is sitting on Dads lap watching CBeebies and holding on for dear life.
