Crochet Amigurumi

I am really enjoying creating lots of different creatures for the dc at the moment and wondered if anyone else is making any at the moment?

Are there any knitters doing amigurumi?

I have mostly followed patterns but have attempted a couple of easy ones without patterns as I could not find one for what DD wanted! However, I am not very good at making a note of the stitches I have used so these are likely to be one off pieces.

If anyone has any tips for designing your own creatures I would love to hear them as there is one I want to make at the moment but I am struggling with how to translate a picture into crochet. I could go down the trial and error route but I am very impatient Grin

I finished mine (on profile). I changed the position of the eyes from the pattern, I wish I had left them where they should have been, but I am pleased I managed one! I sewed the eyes as I don't have any nice ones.

frazzledblob · 02/05/2011 22:21

I think he is lovely Spots :) I am sewing all my eyes for DS who is 2 as I would not trust him with the safety eyes. That bear site is amazing, how have I not seen that site before?!

Patterns are here Baby Triceratops and Baby snow dragon

I will update my profile with pictures tomorrow, sewing up the triceratops now and DD wants an outfit for her rabbid.

Thanks frazzled, DS will love the dinosaur!

Have you seen this site? That's a basic doll pattern, but if you scroll down the left hand side there are lots of fairy/elf things and also kittens and dogs. I'd love to make some of these. I ordered some of the proper eyes too.

Will look for your photos!

Keep the site links coming, they are great!

My new amigurumi book arrived today. I want to make the punk bunny just for me Blush

Oh they're fab frazzled. DS would love the dinosaur and the dragon. Was your DD delighted with the rabbid rabbit?

I am battling making doll legs at the moment, but am slowly winning! I'll have a look at the other saved sites I have saved and see if there's anything else interesting. I can't wait for my books to arrive.

Ok so this is not Amigurumi but can I show off share the little baby shoes i've just finished:)

Narketta · 12/05/2011 11:30

Sorry should have said they're on my profileBlush

SpotsMumSally · 12/05/2011 16:53

They are beautiful Narketta! So tiny...

Are you addicted now? Smile

Narketta · 12/05/2011 17:13

I've been addicted for about the last 18 months or so, I've been able to crochet for as long as I can remember (my grandma taught me) but it's only recently that i've become totally obsessed. I love it and I can't pass a wool shop without going in and buying more yarn to add to my stash. Grin

frazzledblob · 12/05/2011 20:04

Those shoes are fantastic! If I only I had some tiny feet to accessorize Grin

I am just as bad about adding to my wool stash. Dh was Shock the other week as we took a couple of bags down to the charity shop only for me to walk away with twice as many bags full of wool!

Spots, how are your dolls legs going? I have'nt started my bunny yet as I have been making a tank top for DS and a shrug for DD this week.

I am internet wool stash buying at the moment! I had all DK and am having to buy aran for the Amigurumis. They just not looking right in DK. I am waiting patiently for my eyes to arrive too.

The legs have worked out well frazzled, I made one up on a bigger hook first and then on the smaller. The book that you linked to arrived and all of the children want something from it, so I am going to be busy!

Do you have a pattern for the shoes Narketta? My DSIS is expecting a baby girl in August and she would love them. I have ordered this book to make me the baby some bits. This crocheting business is very addictive. It's lovely that your granny taught you to crochet.

Narketta · 13/05/2011 14:22

Hi spot, I took the pattern (but altered it a little bit) from a book called precious baby booties by carolyn christmas it only cost around £3.50 on amazon. Which site do you use to buy your wool?:)

Frazzled do you have a patterns for the shrug and the tanktop that your making, could you tell me where you got them from.:)

SpotsMumSally · 13/05/2011 15:34

Ebay mainly, I have had some bargains. Yesterday I googled for aran wool and this site came up.

The lady is closing down and was so lovely and helpful. I ordered quite a bit - mainly 400g balls. The maximum postage to the UK is £3.50.

I will google the book, thank you!

frazzledblob · 13/05/2011 15:59

apart from ebay, the only place I have got wool from online is kempswoolshop. They had speedy delivery and good prices for what I wanted :)

I had a bargain huge bundle of 2ply wool a while ago and still have'nt thought about what to do with it apaart from doubling it up for more amigurumi Blush

The tank top for DS I am attempting to do is here

shrug pattern for DD here

this is a great place for all sorts patterns here

How old were you when your grandma taught you Narketta? I keep toying with the idea of teaching DD but I'm not feeling brave enough yet Grin

Thanks for the links frazzled:)

I think I was about 8 when my grandma taught me, She taught me basic granny squares and thats pretty much all I did until I got really interested in crochet 18 months ago.

She also tried to teach me to knit but I could never do it. I've tried watching online tutorials and can just about do garter stitch now but I don't think I could ever take to it the way that I have with crocheting.

Good luck with teaching your DD, i'm so happy that my grandma taught me I think its a lovely craft to pass on through the generations and will be teaching DD when she's old enough and DS if he wants to learn.

If I try to crochet when my DC are around DS 5yrs and DD 3yrs they always ask me if they can try so I give them a little ball of wool and a crocheting hook each, we end up with lots of knots but atleast they're showing an interest. Grin
