Any spinners here?

MIL has given me a bag of wool that she's collected from her fence (she lives next to a field).

What can I do with it? It needs washing first off and I thought I might try a bit of spinning but I've never done it before and don't really know where to start.

Any advice welcome! Smile

you have to comb it first as well, to get the fibres going the same way before you can spin it.
I've never done i before either but I do remember that much from doing it at school

Your local Spinners' Guild (website here) might do open days or do events that are local to you so somebody can show you what to do.

Failing that, have you had a look at Youtube. There is bound to be something, there is for most things!! Smile

You will need to card and wash it first before you do anything else... if you have not spun before, you could think about dying it and felting it as you really need to be with someone if you want to learn to spin. Do you know what the sheep were?

Thanks everyone

Niecie Thanks for the link. I'll have a look.

gillybean gosh, the most exciting thing we did in textiles class was weaving on cardboard looms! Grin

No sorry lattelady They've never been in the field when I've been over actually. Felting is a good idea as I don't think there's enough to make anything large out of it. I have a book about felting so I'll start there. Smile

You don't need a large amount to felt... you would be able to make a small corsage flower with less than 20g
