Voila!

Thinking of getting myself a stall (maybe sharing with a mate), probably at Morningside Makers (Edinburgh) and possibly a street stall during the Festival.

They're crocheted slipper boots with sheepskin soles. Usually make baby/toddler sizes, but can also do big kid / adult sizes (although obv these take longer to make).

Also, should I stick to natural fibres? I know I'd prefer that for myself, but the cost of materials might make them prohibitively expensive.

aw, they're cute.

How much did they cost to make?

oh, and I would be okay with the wool, but I would prefer a non-killed-animal sole, so maybe felt/pvc rather than sheep-skin?

I made myself a similar thing (might still be on my profile) but it was from old sleeves and sheepskin insoles. They were lovely and cosy but I learned a lesson or two about reinforcing toes and heels!

Why thank you Poncy :)

Nickel - it depends on what size, but I guess they cost about £5-6 for a 12-18 month-ish size (if using an inexpensive pure wool). That said, I got my current batch of sheepskin v cheaply...not sure if I'd get that lucky again. V good point about the veggie version. I am in fact a non-meat eater myself Blush [massive hypocrite emoticon], but the warmth of the fuzzy woolly soles is really lovely. Do you know of anyone who supplies really good quality thick felt?

MO - aw look at those lovely things you've made! Especially that teeny weeny hand Grin

you could probably sell them for £8-£10 then, if you make it clear that it's pure wool etc.

I have no idea about felt! but maybe look on ebay.

although, I do recall having something in a book once about making felt from knitting.

I'll see if i can find something on t'internet about it.

nickelbaalamb · 16/04/2011 14:35

this might help

just google "felting" or "feltmaking" to find something.

SpawnChorus · 16/04/2011 14:39

Ooooh I LOVE working with wool tops. Had never considered making my own felt!

I would pay a tenner for them.

SpawnChorus · 16/04/2011 15:45

HF - is that just for pure wool, or would you pay a tenner for (nice soft) man-made fibres? And is that for baby sizes? Would you pay more for bigger sizes? (didn't know you were local btw! What was your old name? Or are you new? Wink)

Pure wool baby/toddler sizes. Not sure about man made fibres. Cotton would be good. Probably £12//15 for kids up to a 13.

Am a frequent name changer.
