DD(8) and I went to a scrap-booking workshop recently and both loved it.
We want to do more though have a very limited budget so - what do we really need?

Anyone?

do you have a Wilkinsons or The Works near you?
Wilko's do some lovely stuff at resonable prices.
Last time I was in The Works, they had some Scrapbook kits under £10 that included an album, papers, embellishments etc ~ everything to get you started!
Also, 99p/poundshops sometimes have good bargains.

To start from basics you will need, glue/doublesided tape/foam pads, metal ruler, craft knife, A2 cutting mat.

hope that helps & enjoy your new hobby!

That's great, thanks.
Have both within easy reach and a few £Shops - shopping today I think :)

Enjoy!
I will warn you that paper stroking will become a habit ~ you buy something and then just look at it because it's soooo pretty you won't want to use it!
Also your craft stash will grow quite quickly so good storage is a must! I favour the 12x12 Really Useful Boxes, pricey, but very useful!

storage

feetheart · 12/04/2011 11:55

Yes, I can envisage paper-stroking.............and drooling in craft shops :)

Love Really Useful Boxes so quite happy for excuse to acquire more. Will have to cull craft mountain on top of DD's large double wardrobe to make room but there are only so many 'things to make on a rainy day' that I one family can hoard.

The Range is also a good source for materials and storage.

Try and buy acid free if possible, as it will help prolong the life of your efforts.

I am a scrapbooker:) and have spent many hours stroking paper. Would really recommend a kit from Sarahs Cards (online if you google them), they are a bit more pricy but the papers are a lot better quality than what you get in The Works, and the kits are lovely - quite often they are included in their sales and are then v reasonable, and they did have boxes with £75 worth of scrapbook goodies for £25.

I would also recommend looking at lots of layouts on UKScrappers and TwoPeasinaBucket websites before you rush out buying, and work out which ones you really like, and what it is about them you would like to replicate.

Essentials (I think) are cardstock, patterned paper, embellishments (buttons, ribbon, flowers etc - loads of tutorials about on how to make your own), double sided tape and a brown ink pad. I think Shimelle.com has some good articles about scrapbooking basics.

HTH

This is the article I was talking about from shimelle.com.

Thank you. I will peruse article later in peace and quiet.

We have been to Hobbycraft today to 'just look' - DD now has a reduced priced album kit, a cat and a cat's paw hole punches and even more bl**dy Hama beads, DS has a golden foam crown and I have 2 sheets of LOVELY paper to stroke :)

We are all happy :)

It will get to a point where you "really need" EVERYTHING! LOL

Although I have been papercrafting for about8 yrs I am not so much of a scrapper now, when I get the opportunity to craft I tend to make more cards.

The choice of stamps, papers, inks, embellishments , punches, dies out there is amazing. Loads and loads of inspiration and advice online-have fun!x
