Ooh nice! I'm trying to do my sofa atm in cheap primark curtains - not quite the same thing!

Ooh lovely, what you need to do is reapholster it in a patchwork of vibrant colours.

All I have doen so far is reapholster this swivel chair

and I can spell reupholster! Blush

I've done a couple of wing armchairs and a few smaller chairs.

I tried a chesterfield armchair a few years ago - but got stuck on the button back as I didn't have enough material.

Are you doing it on your own or at a class?

My bosom is much in need of a reupholstering Grin

Any good ideas?

You're not being to ambitious! How much do you need to do? Is all the seat and stuffing fine? Is it sagging, if you look underneath can you see stuff lower than the frame? Or do you just a need recover? Is it deep buttoned or not?
Can you put up some pictures? I spent 5 years studying making/restoring traditional furniture and can point you in the right direction if you want? I may be off line for a few days but will check back.

Yes - years ago.

1 tip I found useful was to take off the old upholstery very carefully, and you can then use that as a pattern for the new.

The first thing I tackled was a chaise lounge that was covered in velvet and was recovered in upholstery-weight damask from what was GH Lee, now John Lewis. The salesman was able to estimate the amount of fabric required from experience and the measurements we took.

The fabric was nailed and then the nails were covered with brass pins - at the time it was very difficult to get them. An upholsterer told me that he would have glued the finishing braid, rather than nailing it.

Sad - left at dm's and probably gone in a skip now.

I am re-upholstering my sofa but where can I find new seat cushions which are firm??? I have seen some companies on line but they would charge £200 per cushion, which seems very steep. My local fabric store does not sell anything to make cushions due to fire regulations apparently. Any advice???
