Fancy Dress at Nursery - Any Ideas?

DS 7 months has just started nursery and we have had the newsletter home detailing what they are doing for red nose "week"(!!) next week. On Tuesday there is a fancy dress day and I wondered if anyone has any ideas for a costume for one so little. I know DS wont know the difference but I do want him to join in as much as possible with the other kids. Money is very tight at the moment so buying a lot is out of the question. I have a sewing machine my mum gave me but only a very basic grasp of how to use it and I'm not very crafty but am willing to have a go at anything. I just need a bit of inspiration and that is what you lot are really good at.

PS. to save me posting in "am I being unreasonable" can you also advise me on whether I am exhibiting the first signs of Competitivemotherzilla? Its a worry!!:o

ladybird? sew black spots on to a red t-shirt. optional deely-bopper antennae

ds was a spider at 3 months (legs out of tights, sewn to black-dyed babygro)

dalmation - black spots on white babygro, colour/sew ribbon to top of babygro for collar

Elmer - colour/sew patchwork colours on to white babygro.

It's competitive mum if you are only doing it to look better than others. And if you won't enjoy it IMvhO. Sains/Asda have cheap costumes for all ages if you decide you don;t have any inclination to be crafty mum.

Pre-school has just suggested that they wear something red.

Otherwise t-shirt paints are a good, easy, way to decorate a babygrow, and not too expensive if you only need 1 or 2 colours.

If you have a basic bright red/green babygro, could go as apple/pear, green knitted hat and some paper leaves sewn on.

I also second the spider suggestion above, is a great option, black dye notoriously doesn't wash too well, so just bear it in mind if you plan to re-use babygro.

I've just bought a Bee vest and tights off eBay for £2 inc p&p. It might be worth having a look on there as well. You could make one with a yellow babygro and black ribbon sewn in stripes. some paper wings are also acceptable.

It's only competitive if you want/make the best and most unique outfit for your DD.

Immense baby costume.
I'm also having a red nose day nightmare. Needs to be something a two year old can wear all day and wee in the bottom of without ruining the entire costume.
I'm going for the ladybug... lol
