Does anyone remember the paper pyramid type thing that you put answers in and used with fingers and thumbs?

I remember it from childhood. A folded square which when opened out you could put in your index finger and thumb and choose an answer behind it. Like a fortune teller? Sorry my memory is awful but it was very popular in the 80s. Can anyone work out what I mean and remind me how to do it? I would be very grateful

marks space - I remember that too and can't remember how to do it. DS would love it.

square bit of paper. Fold the corners into the centre. then the new corners into the centre.

fold in half and it should take shape.

Wasn't it brilliant? I don't know what it was called so can't search on t'internet

Yes.

You need a perfect square of paper.

Fold in half, crease, open again.

Fold in half again so you get another crease that goes across the first crease. You now have a square with a crease cross marked in across it.

Still with me?

I know exactly what you mean - I'll see if I can find a demo on YouTube, or if not I'll try to describe.

I'll be back (unless someone beats me to it).

muttimalzwei · 07/03/2011 18:56

brilliant thank you

thanks from me too. Isn't MN wonderful?

RamonaFlowers · 07/03/2011 18:56

Oh. someone linked it. I'll stop.

But you then fold all the corners of the paper into the middle point of the cross.

Turn the paper over and repeat. Do you need anymore or can you take it from there?

TheFarSide · 07/03/2011 18:57

Get a square of paper - it must be a square. Fold corners in so points meet in the middle. Turn over - on the reverse side, fold corners in again so they meet in the middle. Push fingers into four flaps underneath. Hopefully then your memory will kick in and you'll just KNOW what to do.

They're called fortune tellers! Mamazon's instructions are spot on, but the very last step is hard to describe (you fold it in half, then kind of push it out so it's three dimensional). However there are lots of instructional videos on youtube. Grin
And they say the internet hasn't improved our lives...

We make these every day for tidy up time.

Clean your room
put clean washing away
take toys upstairs etc

soccerwidow · 08/03/2011 20:26

we called them "jubberlies/jubblys"

I suppose because they were similar in shape to those frozen juice things that were around at the same time.

love the alternative use sleepfairy

FluteyBoots · 08/03/2011 20:30

We called them peck-off-noses.

Because if you used your thumb and first 3 fingers in them, you can form a beak-like shape, fly it towards someone and peck off their nose with it.

Or maybe that was just in my family!

DD had this book for Christmas. It's pages of these paper things.....cootie catchers (sounds a bit American?). They are all pre-printed you just have to fold them. She loves making them up and we've made our own too.
