Sewing onto a tshirt

I wonder if anyone can help.....

My daughter got a tshirt when we went to Movie World recently, with Scooby on it. She loves it.

BUT, it has a white background. And the main shirt is stained & ruined (god only knows what she got on it) I had this idea of putting the main picture on a new shirt. Which would mean cutting the old tshirt up & sewing it onto a new one.

I figured I would just undo the seams & sew around the picture, then cut the excess off...I kinda know what I mean. Hope you are still with me.

But it is a big picture, and I am guessing that if I just sew around it, it may sag in the middle.

Does anyone know what I am on about, and can any one help?

Thank you, Engleburt. I didn't even think of using something like that, I think that would work.

when we did not have bondaweb back in ye olden days we used to just iron the two layers together with clingfilm inbetween. worked a treat.

There are two types of bondaweb.

One is a fairly lightweight one, that you can sew through and it won't gunk up your needle. BUT, it might not hold through lots of washing (so might still sag eventually)

or there is a non-sew one, sew through it and your needle will get all gunky/sticky. BUT it will last through a million more washes. Its the one in the red packet at hobbycraft.

Bondaweb is fab stuff: I use it a lot for appliqueing tops either by making my own design or cutting off a picture from an old t-shirt etc.

www.farbenmix.de/anleitungen/applikationenen.htm This is fromn a German website and they refer to a different product but idea is the same. You don't have to sew round the design afterwards but it finishes it off

Thanks everyone, sorry I didn't reply to this when you posted. My laptop died just after I posted the second post!

I'll look into all the suggestions. Thanks again!

another idea is sewing it on so your dd can use it like a pocket/pouch sewing round all edges but leaving space for her hands to go inside

where can you buy bondaweb? I did read the hobbycraft suggestion below. Just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere else since I don't have a hobbycraft nearby.

most haberdasheries will stock it, but its normally hiding somehwere.
