What is your favourite craft book?

I got a new one today in the post from Amazon - The Needlecraft Book. It covers knitting, embroidery, needlepoint, quilting, crochet, applique and patchwork and the pictures and instructions are really clear. I am taking it on my holidays to see the PIL next week and hope to be able to try out some of the techniques I haven't had a go at before!

So that is my new favourite. Just being nosy now and to see if I am missing out on the craft book of the year, do any of you crafters have a favourite crafting book? Any recommendations?

Ooh I saw that one in my local bookshop but am currently boycotting them as they are so bloody rude! Does it look good?

I still really like Scandinavian Needlecraft, it's just nice and fresh and non-stuffy or tacky like so much sewing stuff. Lots of illustrations of embroidery stitches, some very simple projects and more difficult ones too.

It looks great! The photography is so clear as are the instructions. I wouldn't say an expert would get a lot out of it but then, who is an expert at all those subjects. I suppose knitting is the thing I am most practiced at and I can do most things but even so the knitting section looks like it will still have something of interest like colour work which I haven't done a lot of.

I saw it in our local bookshop too. I feel a bit sorry for them that I didn't 'buy local' but Amazon are doing it at almost half price and they just can't compete.

I like your book too. Embroidery is one of those things I have dabbled with but don't do a lot so it looks interesting as it is neither too hard nor too easy and very effective.

This is another Martha Stewart book that's v inspirational, also loved the creative family here.

coldcomfortHeart · 23/02/2011 20:32

That lady who wrote the creative family also has a lovely blog- soulemama. It's pretty jealousy-inspiring though, she has 4 kids and still manages to craft and create like crazy!

Love the Martha book i got it for Christmas. Also the scandanavian book is lovely. Similar is one called Made in France if you like embroidery.

Mine is this one www.amazon.co.uk/Knitting-Block-Nicky-Epstein/dp/0307586529/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1298559525&sr=8-1 which is the latest book from Nicky Epstein. Have already done half a dozen of the blocks.

ooh The Made in France one looks lovely as does this one... I'm seriously tempted!

I bought Sew La Tea Do yesterday, I am a real novice at garment making and it comes with the patterns all full-sized so I'm hoping it will be a nice gentle intro into the world of seamstress-ing...

I've just ordered Bag Making Bible and Fabric Jewellery. The later I saw in a charity shop a few months ago and should have bought, but didn't, have now.
