Joining crochet squares 'invisibly'

I want to make a baby blanket, well, a couple, and I was going to do single colour blocks for speed, in two colours. Can I join them so you can't see the join? If not, and I use two colours, with one to join is it going to look a bit 'off balance'?

Have a look at this, great easy to follow steps on how to join granny squares. I guess if you use one of the colours it will disappear.

I love this blog it is so inspiring!

Thanks, that's great, though it means you'll see it on the other side.

I wonder whether to do that or to use a third colour to join, or to use an alternative pattern, e.g. middle of the square one colour, edge with the other and use that same colour to join?

Sewing them, rather than crocheting together as in that link, would make them more invisible. Crocheting (slip stitch) looks pretty if you'd like a nice back border but for invisible I'd stick to sewing, although you'd still see a bit of the thread.

Just sew through the back loop on the edge 'v' stitch rather than both, if you follow what I mean, for the blanket to be more flexible. Sewing or crocheting through the whole stitch will make it a bit more stiff.

I love crocheting blankets!

Kitchener's stitch scroll down and although she uses it for socks, it leaves an invisible join. I use it for hats.

Could I use the Kitchener stitch on crochet?

I am not sure but as I cannot crochet but you could try it out on a small test piece to see if it works.
