Don't laugh, because I am trying not to laugh at myself.

Thought I would make some play dough - do you think I can do it in the food processor?!

You have to cook it so not really! You stir it all together int he pan til it gets thick, it looks all horrible and you wonder what you've done wrong then you knead it an dit turns into play dough.

I've never tried tbh. I just mix in the pan.
I use this recipe:

  • 3 cups of water
  • 3 cups of plain flour
  • 1.5 cups of salt
  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar (or a big squeeze of lemon juice)

Put into a pan and heat it over a low heat, stirring occasionally so that it doesn't stick. After about 5 minutes it will start to peel away from the sides and make a big ball in the middle of the pan. When it has all come together, take it out and knead it for a couple of minutes.

Or
I've found this recipe for no-cook playdough
You could do this in the food processor?
I was under the impression cooked playdough was better and lasted longer. I am happy to be corrected though :)

Kneading - didn't realise that! Perhaps this was the wrong time of day to start this, but it's in the pan now.....!

The knewding just turns it from a clump of ingredients into proper playdough, it just suddenly "turns" and takes on that playdough feeling.

Not sure about teh no cook, don't think it owuld feel the same.

pipplin - that's the recipie I am using, not quite gone to plan yet though, seems to need more flour than that....my arm may fall off soon....

i've never cooked it! use pipplin's recipe less the oil

felicity10 · 08/02/2011 18:04

Right, it is made, need to dash off and clear up the kitchen which got left while I gave dd her tea! It works, but I don't think you need as much water as that, add a bit at a time as I added a LOT more flour to change it from soup into play dough!

Tomorrow should be fun!

thanks for your replies

Hope the play dough goes down well!

I have always made it in a pan with a similar recipe to the one above.

However, I have recently seen in blogland, someone making playdough in a blender using above receipe but with just-boiled water - I am yet to try but she had lots of feedback from others that had successfully tried her method.

you can make it in the microwave too, just mix all the ingredients togethers and bung it in the microwave stiring it every minute or so untill it looks and feels like playdough.

We had a wonderful thread on here a few years back where people were making playdough with colours and fragrance and glitter.

Black glittery orange-smelling playdough anyone?
