Does anyone know the name of the technique where you draw wax crayon on paper then iron a piece of fabric over the top??
Thank you

Not sure, but could it be batik?

Whizzz · 11/10/2005 22:09

Yup I'd go for that too !

thought it was encaustic art guess who was sleeping during textiles?

ScarySkribble · 12/10/2005 00:18

Is that not when you paint or dribble on clear wax for a resist to paint or ink.

Encaustic is when you put the iron directly in the wax. But you can then transfer it on to fabric like this

anorak · 12/10/2005 00:20

encaustic is when you make a picture with the wax with an iron.

Batik is when you use the wax to stop a dye in the fabric (or paper) to get the colour effect of dying whatever part isn't stopped by the wax.

I suggested batik, but she insists it's something else. Will suggest encaustic art in the morning.

Many thanks for the replies.

does she have to find a specific name for it? Is it a quizz or is she trying to describe a piece of work? I'd say it is heat transfed wax. Or just a transfer technique.

GeraldGiraffe · 12/10/2005 00:57

yeah, its not batik, you drip/train molten wax over the fabric for that, then dye/paint the fabric before removing the wax.

Not sure what it is though, sorry!
