Quilters

I am thinking about having my wedding dress made into a quilt to get it out of the bag and used (or visible at least!) I have this sort of thing in mind.

Thing is, I have never made a quilt before in my life so I am not going to attempt it myself. Also, don't think I could bring myself to take the scissors to it myself Grin

Does anyone know how/where I could find somebody to make such a thing??

A quilt like that will be made from cotton or linen...I assume your wedding dress is silk or satin?

That won't translate as well...or look like that.

There are a few people on folksy.com who make "memory quilts"...you can put that into the search engine on folksy and as the makers...usually they make them out f a little girls dresses etc.

Phoar, that is some quilt... all those pointy points! And feathery quilting!

agree with Wimple, quilts are usually made from, and look best in cotton. If your dress is a thick silk (the sort with 'slubs' on it) then this can look nice on a quilt (although would end up being more decorative and not too practical for washing)

But I really like your idea of re-using your dress, and think etsy or folksy is sure to provide someone with the skills and patience to do something. Good luck!

Thanks.

That quilt was made from wedding dresses, but yes mine is satin. It doesn't have to be exactly like that one :) although some panels inc a bridesmaid dress would be nice for colour.

What about approaching your local Quilters Guild? Link to find your local group

There might well be people there who would relish such a project and have the time. They often have more than enough quilts of their own and might be happy to make one for somebody else.

No harm in asking them anyway.
