I've been given a couple of yards of some amazing vintage fabric - see profile. It's a brightly coloured wool tweed. Now given that I'm not going to make Boden-style mini skirts, and am not proficient enough to make handbags - any ideas/links? I'd like to make some small cute things.

All I can think of is the lavender-heart sachets you see everywhere but there must be something more original. What can I make? Or is it too awful?

The fabric is lovely - it is very clothes-like, isn't it? I think lavender bags is a lovely idea. Also what about small cushion covers.

Equally you could get two or more solid colours (pink and blue / white) and make a simple 9-square patchwork quilt with this fabric as the main focus.

I quite like your fabric actually. I am not sure I would want it as a skirt either.

I am struggling what to suggest and the only thing that comes to mind is maybe some cushions or alternatively, a throw, maybe for using outside as tweed is quite tough. Perhaps you could back it with fleece so that you could either use it as something to go on the ground or you could wrap up in. Not small and cute I know.

How about a draught excluder? Somthing like this

Or a Tote bag rather than a hand bag? Something like this? Much simpler than what I would call a handbag.

I'm thinking Owls.

I've no idea why or what you'd do with tweed owls though Hmm

Niecie · 01/02/2011 14:08

Or a pencil case/make up bag? From Etsy

Brooches - although you would make a lot with a couple of yards!! like this or this? There are lots of designs on Etsy if you search on tweed brooches.

KnottyLocks · 01/02/2011 14:18

It's obvious:Tweed pigeons

Francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2011 14:18

It is lovely. I have a little case for my glasses in a similar fabric.

KnottyLocks · 01/02/2011 14:20

Wristlet?

Niecie · 01/02/2011 14:22

A chicken just to continue a bird theme.Smile

Or bean bags - the small sort you throw not the kind you sit on although that might be an option.

KnottyLocks · 01/02/2011 14:32

I love those chickens, Niecie.

Niecie · 01/02/2011 14:37

He is very cute isn't he? I didn't realise he is a door stop until I was having another look. I quite fancy one myself!

Although in pink tweed it would have to be a 'she' chicken obviously!

KnottyLocks · 01/02/2011 15:34

Nah, could be a camp cockerel. V modern Grin

I'm trying to work out what shape you'd cut to make them.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2011 16:41

I'm trying to work out the pattern fo the chicken too :o

SoupDragon · 01/02/2011 16:43

More of less this.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2011 16:44

Owls

KnottyLocks · 01/02/2011 17:34

Excellent, thanks Soupy. That's been added to my 'To Do' list. Also saved me mucho cursing trying to work it out myself.

And the owls. Awwwwwww.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2011 17:40

I have a To Do list as well. Unfortunately, above all the craft stuff is "sort the house out" [wail]

Although surely sorting out the fabric drawer counts as sorting the house out... [cunning]

KnottyLocks · 01/02/2011 18:04

Indeed it does Grin

My 'sort the house out' list is depressing. My crafting list creates a healthy balance.
Very important Grin
