Dyeing Pasta

Scout19075 · 24/01/2011 14:32

I'm going to dye some pasta for BabyScout (pasta table instead of sand/water table and for craft projects). It's been YEARS since I've done any pasta dyeing. Does anyone have any experience?

Am wondering if I need to use glass bowls to dye or can I use my plastic pudding bowls? I don't mind TOO much if the bowls get a bit stained but if it will stain (or chance of stain) it will determine which bowl/s I use.

Thanks!

Raw pasta - I do in a glass jar with a lid

Food colouring generally stains plastic

Cooked pasta is fun too

I'm going to start with dry pasta to add to his table (rotating with different experiences). How long do you leave your pasta soaking for? I'm thinking a few seconds but does that short of time make it bright/dark enough to be "excitng"?

Dry is not a good colour really (maybe I'm doing it wrong) more of a tint

I gave up & did cooked pasta - but that doesn't store

I'm doing 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol (surgical spirits here, I think) and 10+ drops of food coloring. I'm hoping to give it a go today and see what happens!

How did it go Scout ? I've been meaning to try this for ages.

For dry I use neat colour then bake it slightly to dry and set the colour. I made red and green recently with norml food colouring and it came out nice and bright.
