Hi crafters,

I just thought I'd post a link to my craft blog Crafty Witch for anyone who is interested.

I started it to document the transformation of my office/craft room/dump into the nursery for my baby on the way. I sew and crochet so am going to be making toys and soft furnishings and will be sharing links to anything I have made designed by someone else, along with patterns to anything I create from scratch.

I'd love it if you could give me some feed back, but mainly just wanted to share the wealth. Its quite new at the moment so there isn't loads there just yet but hopefully it will grow!!

Bit Blush as I don't normally do shameless self promotion but I suppose thats what blogging is all about!!

Thanks for looking!

Oh wow, just looked at your blog and you've made the spool birds too! Aren't they lovely? I lvoe the colours you have used.

Nice blog. You are a very talented woman.

KurriKurri · 21/01/2011 15:48

Lovely blog rocketleaf - I especially like all your owls being an owl fan myself - am definitely going to have a go at the chime owl. The little amigurami Kitten is really cute Smile

I love looking at the work of the talented women we have on this site Smile

rocketleaf · 22/01/2011 12:45

Ah thanks very much! I am really loving doing it although trying not to get too distracted from the actual crafting by constant tweaking of the blog, I imagine this could become an occupational hazard!

KurriKurri, I'd love to see how your Chime Owl turns out. Please let me know if there are any bugs in the instructions.

Ooh another lovely craft blog to read :) Your blog is great.
Your owl is gorgeous!
Do you think I could handsew it? Also chime bells would somewhere like C&H sell those?

rocketleaf · 22/01/2011 19:57

Thanks pipplin! Yes I did it by hand, I used machine thread but double to make it sturdy. Not sure what C&H is but I got 10 bells from eBay for a few pounds and used 4 for the owl.

Fantastic :) do you have any tips once you have turned it back the right way for sewing that hole up? Is it just really careful sewing? Because the draft excluder I've just made, the bit I had to sew- which is on show looks a little messy :(

Will have a look on eBay for bells, thank you

rocketleaf · 22/01/2011 21:48

Yes the way I do it is really small stitches. Not sure if I can explain but if you insert the ingoing needle opposite to where the thread is coming out but at an angle so the stitches are almost invisible instead of using a slip or hem stitch. Especially if you can put them in right at the edge of where the seams meet. Does that make any sense? I could try and take a picture if not?

If you wouldn't mind taking a picture, very sorry to be a pain. I just learn better through pictures.
My sewing was looking great until bit where you can see my sitches. Luckily as it's on the floor no one will see :) I will still know though.

rocketleaf · 23/01/2011 14:55

No probs pipplin, I have popped a picture in my profile pics. You can see my stitching as the nearest thread colour I had wasn't a very good match. If it had been you would have been able to see them less. I have put the needle in to show you the angle, each stitch is only about 2 mm apart because this was small but you could use the same technique with bigger stitches to be quicker on a larger project. I don't know if this is the 'correct' way of doing it as I am largely self taught. Someone else might be able to give you better advice!

What a great blog and also - your study is just like mine - I'm inspired! I will visit your blog again....wasa thinking of strting my own on the same subject - when I do I will 'link' to you!!!! (what am I on about 0- no idea!)

Anyway best of luck with htis..

PS do you twitter? Apparently it 'drives' people to read your blog....

rocketleaf · 23/01/2011 15:14

Thanks Hambo, a link would be great. I don't twitter but perhaps I should. I keep thinking of one liners that would be relevant but too short for the blog. Bit of a newb at it all so will think about starting. Good luck sorting the study out! Mine is about a 3rd clear now and I the shelves are coming next week

Thank you rocketleaf :)Really sweet of you to do that :)
I am thinking of making your owls(doing a prototype first) then making 3 of different sizes attaching velcro so they attach side by side. I am making these for my DS and DC on the way. Thought they would look nice in the nursery.

pipplin · 23/01/2011 15:41

double smiley face, I am that pleased!

pipplin · 23/01/2011 15:41

Oooh and do, do twitter. It's great.

rocketleaf · 23/01/2011 17:04

Great idea Pipplin, I think I am going to make a smaller rounder version for the pram. I have changed my old and defunct twitter account to CraftyWitchery if anyone wants to follow me.

OP posts:
pipplin · 23/01/2011 19:51

Thanks :) I will probably be asking for help along the way'
Will follow you now.

pipplin · 23/01/2011 19:59

Can't find you but if you just changed it I think it takes 24 hours to appear on searches and feeds #twittergeek - see what I did there Wink

Quiltingmoomin · 23/01/2011 21:07

I empathise with your junk problem and think a blog is a great way of spurring you on. I made a list on mine of what I wanted to get thru this week and I've stuck to it pretty well because I want to post a lot of progress next week. Your baby is going to be very lucky - lovely makes so far.

rocketleaf · 23/01/2011 22:32

HTH Pipplin, I've linked to my twitter feed via the blog too (get me!) so if it doesn't show up in search maybe give that a go.

Thanks Moomin (great name!) I just have to watch how much time I spend tweaking the blog instead of actually doing stuff! Wink
