Knitting/crocheting for charity

Hi, all. Work is really quiet at the moment so I have been keeping myself occupied with crochet. I've made 3 sets so far of hat, booties and granny square bunny and I'm working on a fourth.

Please could somebody tell me where to send them so they can be passed on to Neo-Natal units?

TIA Smile

I think Ravelry have a group that deals with charity knitting.
If I have anything for charity I just pass it to the neo-natal unit at our local hospital because the nthere are no postage costs in volved

Thanks, DutchOma. I didn't know if it was acceptable to just turn up with it, iyswim. Also, my nearest neo-natal unit is 25 miles away, all the other hospitals in the area ambulance people over if necessary,so cheaper for me to post it to them than to drive - would this be ok?

The stuff you've made so far will probably be too big for this but have a look at this:

I used internet patterns that said they were for prem babies...

You can tell that I've got more stressed as the week goes on - the first ones huge compared to the last because my tension transfers to the wool tension!!!

PP - I would have a look at your profile but I can't seem to access it (compared to say DutchOma's) - do you need to do something with your settings?

purplepidjin · 20/01/2011 17:12

PP they are lovely. You might just want to call your neonatal unit and ask what they do and if they'd like you to post them. If you wanted to make more then they may be able to advise you on what bits are most useful and provide guidance on colours etc.

I've been in the unfortunate position of using such donated clothes for premmie babies that didn't make it and I can tell you it meant a lot to me that we were able to see them in knitted outfits. It really helped that my last images of them were in baby outfits that fitted them. So good on you! Smile

DutchOma · 20/01/2011 18:54

Is there not someone you know who visits the hospital and could take them for you?
One of my ladies at knitting club was knitting premmie hats and some of them were no bigger than an egg cosy

Bumperlicious · 20/01/2011 19:13

Do you have a pattern for the sets?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 20/01/2011 19:22

I've been knitting little blankets for Lisa's stars - I saw a request on my local freegle for wool, and got in touch with the organiser, and will be making a pile of little blankets and hats.

I'm planning to make them as pretty as I can - I'm going to applique on little felt hearts, or embroider them, or knit little flowers for the hats. I know it won't make any difference at the time, but it might be a small comfort at some point.

I do some knitting for premature babies and have found the following sites to be helpful:

Bev's Country Cottage

Ray of Hope

My local John Lewis (Reading) also collects for the local neo-natal ward. Maybe other John Lewis's do?
