Oddments of wool

I am starting to knit Jean Greenhowe's toys and need a place to get (cheaply if poss) any oddments (spare balls, half balls etc) of DK wool in any colour. I bought a starter pack from an online knitting shop but it is quite an expensive way of doing it. I looked on eBay but there is nothing much inspiring me. I have also advertised on free cycle to no avail.
Any ideas?

Charity shops? Or you could ask knitters on here what they do with theirs? I must admit, I use mine to make fluffy balls with... plus I'm in Australia so not much use to you.

Are you on Ravelry? You could post on the british knitters board and see if someone can help. I would offer you some of mine, but I generally use them down to the last yard for one project or another!

Is there a market near you? The one near me sells balls of dk for 85p and often has end of line odds and sods for 50p or so.

Abakhan fabrics (google it) sells wool. Not as cheap as the market, but not as expensive as online.

Don't just look in charity shops, ask. Often they have bits of stuff hanging round in the back or they might take your number and ring you if something comes in.

Don't give up on freecycle. Keep looking and asking.

You can sometimes get that sort of thing on e-bay.

Or talk to your local SnB group. I often have odd bits and bobs that I'll swap within groups.

You can but 25g balls of acrylic in some wool shops.

Also on Ravelry you can see if there is a local knitters' group or groups near to you. I have loads of odds and sods left over from Jean Greenhowe knitting, so if you are anywhere near pm me.
