I've looked at YouTube thingies and have a book, which I am following. But it keeps coming out twisted, and I can't work out what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

Where do you live? I'm Teesside based and would be happy to show you if you live near me.

Thanks Dr Seuss but I'm the other end of the country. I might ask my mum next time I see her!

Singingcat, I'm Southampton-ish and could spare time for a coffee (not terribly experience, but seem to be managing to make nice things for my 2 pg mates!) Smile

singingcat seeing someone actually do it is completely different to youtube. I was on the edge of giving up when I asked at the wool shop for advice, they were very patient and showed me some basic stitches and it all clicked and made sense. Now feel much more proficient.

Have you a local wool shop you could pop into, or a SnB group. I'm based near Brizzle if you want some hands on basics.

singing cat I'm in London/Kent if that's any good?

I agree with Kellestar - it's totally different to see someone do it rather than youtube (although I think youtube is brilliant for checking theory). Is there a Stitch n' Bitch group or wool/craft shop near by?

Anyone in Glasgow that can help me? I'm also on the verge of giving up..

I find it impossible to learn crochet using Youtube, but it's a good way to confirm that you're doing a stitch right.
I learnt by trawling charity shops for books from the seventies and eighties. The patterns are generally horrible, but the instructions very good. I think it was Dent who published a lot of them. Anyway, try the abebooks site for books like these, they don't cost much.
