Anyone have a pretty looking but easy to knit baby pattern blanket?

Have had a look online but not seeing anything I fancy...

I have a knitted blanket that someone did for DS and I'm trying to recreate the pattern - seems to be blocks of garter and stocking stitch and the overall effect is like a woven basket type thing but not having much luck..need a pattern really

Any help appreciated

Puss - can you post a pic, would be easy to recreate then?

Eeek no I can't as blanket is at my mums house...Hmm

It appears to be 5 garter, 5 stocking stitch for a 7 rows or so, then the blocking changes and where it was garter, its now stocking stitch and so on in blocks...however, the blanket looks all floaty and nice but when I tried to recreate it tonight, it didn't turn out as I expected

Would it be anything like this? the squares might be reverse stocking stitch not garter stitch. This kind of pattern can be quite different once it's been blocked out too, bunches up a bit when your first knit it.

I've been trying to knit a baby blanket that I saw at a friend's house and not had much luck. It looks very like the one you kindly showed greenlotus but it looks a bit complicated for me - but I will give it a go. Is it American as I've never heard of seed stitch.

I think seed stitch is moss stitch?

That's not too difficult a pattern once you get started, only knitting and purling. It would work with an Aran weight yarn on 4.5mm needles. I'm not convinced about casting on so many stitches though, I think you might end up with a giant blanket. but you get the idea.

I've knitted basketweave stitch before (i.e. the pattern above, of garter/moss sitch areas and stockinette, to create a woven look), and it does change a lot on blocking. I also found that when I knitted it in cotton/cotton blend (I like the Amy Butler cotton/wool mixes for Rowan, but they're a bit expensive because they're organic) it turned out less in need of blocking than when it was done in wool. That might just be the gauge I was knitting at though.

Very similar except no seed stitch..it was a basket weave pattern made up of blocks of garter and stocking stich blocks - which is easier than moss/seed stitch imho

Hi Puss, I'm not sure if you're on Ravelry (if you're not, it's free to join and well worth it if you knit much), but I found all these patterns for basketweave-type baby blankets. This one, with big squares, is rather nice!

It's always worth joining Ravelry, whether you knit a lot or a a little.
