Ch 4, join to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc in ring. (12 dc)

If you only have 4 chains where do you make 11 dc's? I'm so new to this. It just doesn't compute in my head.

Boo....

You do your 11dcs directly into the 'hole' you made when you made your ring with the 1st chain of 4.
Hope that makes sense

tristalewjac · 03/01/2011 18:47

Nope dont get it. Must be totally thick and destined not to crochet. But thanks for your reply.

Actually, I'm getting what you mean and it is making sense now. Just dont actually know how to work it round the ring. I need my gran!

You are making a wheel of stitches

the 4chain make a loop, and then the first 3 chain stands up like a spoke, and the 11 dcs will be further spokes

does that help?

MummyBerryJuice · 03/01/2011 18:54

Exactly!!

tristalewjac · 03/01/2011 18:55

Nearly. I think i'm getting it. Something has clicked in my head, just need to practice that now and see if it works.
Thanks

tristalewjac google attic 24. It's a blog by a lady called Lucy. She has some tutorials and explains things really well (with very clear photos too)

purplepidjbauble · 03/01/2011 19:18

All eleven double crochet stitches are worked into the hole in the middle. Because they take up so much room, you end up back roughly where you started.

Sorry, I find these things translate easier without the abbreviations which just confuse me Blush

tristalewjac · 03/01/2011 21:00

Got it! Thankyou. Made a lovely wee snowflake.

Just checking out attic 24 now, it's a nice colourful site anyway. May be there for a while...

Be careful, you'll be there longer than a while....

tristalewjac · 03/01/2011 23:20

Tearing myself away now....reluctantly.
Will resume tomorrow

Just curious that you had to do 3 ch to count as the first double crochet. I thought 2 ch was more typical as a double crochet substitute and 3 ch was a treble substitute.

Unless your pattern is American! Don't they say single crochet for what we would call a double, double instead of a treble and so on?

Sorry OP - this isn't helping is it?

Sarsaparilllla · 06/01/2011 12:50

5foot5, god I hate that US and UK crochet terms are different, it makes my head hurt :(

tristalewjac · 07/01/2011 19:36

Nah it's cool 5foot5, you didn't confuse me. I've really picked it up since my original post. No expert, but enough to start some projects. I made a wee snowflake first, and now I'm half way through a nice big colourful granny blanket. I'm really enjoying it, finding it very relaxing.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Halfway through a big granny blanket???

You crochet fast!

Is it one of Lucy's?

FoundWanting · 07/01/2011 22:12

Try this. Once you get the hang of it, it is much neater.
