Peppermint Christmas Tree Decorations?

When I was a kid, my sister and I used to make peppermint Christmas decorations - stars and Christmas tree shapes etc which we put a hole in and then hung up with ribbon, but can't remember how we made them (though my sis reckons we used icing sugar and peppermint flavouring?) - can't find anything useful on t'internet.

Anyone able to help? Xmas Smile

Were they effectively these with a hole in and some ribbon through?

I think so!! Xmas Grin

Thank you

They okay to eat if you're pregnant?

Don't think it would be advised because of the egg white being uncooked, but it's up to the individual as to how much notice they take of 'advice' Wink

Poo pants. Fed up of nice things being off limits - 7 weeks to go - just how much damage can stilton, raw egg white, baileys, champers and brie be over Christmas? Xmas Hmm

You can always use Lion-stamped eggs - salmonella-free and pretty much ubiquitous in supermarkets! Grin

Or, look in local Sainsboros - they stock Dr Oetker (sp) pasturised egg white powder which I reckon would be just the job. Am planning on making peppermint fondants for christmas with DS if the baby doesn't come first!

Little Reshape is due Boxing Day! Grin

I'd never seen the pasturised stuff before though I knew it existed, so I swooped on it when I saw it in Sainsbury. It was the Didcot branch if that's any good for you....? Grin

You can also buy powdered egg white which apparently is ok for pregnant women, you mix it up with water.

There is a recipe that sets like concrete - it uses icing sugar, butter and a little milk. The method is a bit like choux pastry - you heat the milk and butter, just enough to melt the butter, add the icing sugar, roll it out and get just enough time to re-roll the trimmings.

Sorry, can't remember the exact quantities, but have a google, it's much more reliable than all that faffing round with egg white, and then the damn stuff doesn't set.

Thanks TB will have a look...
