Anyone else feel crafting guilt?

I realised at 1.30 that I had a whole hour before DS home from school so am using it to put the finishing touches to an christmas apron I'm making for my sister. I just realised whilst at the ironing board that I have this constant feeling I should be doing something else ie cleaning the house (did a massive laundry this morning and washed kitchen floor) It's taking all the pleasure out of it for me Sad Anyone else ever feel this?

Stop this feeling guilty at once! Having little creative outlets make you feel good so it will be an even better Mum/partner since you are that much calmer and happier SmileHouse work is relentless it will never be finished so let it slid once in a while.

are you mad?!

absolutely no guilt here Grin life it far too short to worry about housework!

coldcomfortHeart · 10/11/2010 16:30

Hmm the house is falling to rack and ruin around us, cobwebs, crumbs... do feel bad about it at times but come the weekend we both chip in and do a big clean and then it's back to sewing all the opportunities I can in the week! I have a table at a craft fair in 2 weeks' time (my first) and have no idea re stock levels- keep panicking and trying to make more!

yes
& I had the MIL round to babysit for me this afternoon - lots of little comments about the state of the house. Which for once was actually clean & tidy
(just as long as you don't look in my bedroom Grin}

Thanks to all for the support! In fact even just hopping on to MN and typing that in made me feel a lot better yesterday (when I reread it after posting thought it made me sound like a total whinge -promise I'm not!) Stuck it out with the apron and finished it. Feeling a lot better now. Coldcomfort good luck with the craft fair :)

So glad you started this thread - I thought it was just me and my overactIve catholic guilt complex! I make deals with myself - clean the kitchen and then knit/ sew. At the moment I've got guilt pangs about the state of my stash - even that needs cleaning up !

coldcomfortHeart · 11/11/2010 12:05

oh god don't start on the fabric/felt/stuffing mountains that swamp the living room, even very laid-back DH has commented on having to step over bags of fabric!

Thanks Cinnamonthecat, I am sure I'll have overlooked something but finding this book really helpful.

Cinnamonthecat · 12/11/2010 21:53

that book looks brilliant-there's another thread on here about selling online that it would be worth a mention on. Quiltingmoomin I make those deals all the time too-and I have very definite catholic influences so you are probably correct there, glad I'm not alone in this! :)

Yes. I have just been given an antique sewing machine of my great great grandmother's, and I am ignoring all dust and work deadlines. But I am in love!

LoveMyGirls · 13/11/2010 13:11

I clicked on this thinking it was a thread about feeling guilty for not doing craft stuff, for eg this morning I've dont nothing constructive at all, had a lie in, breakfast, cuddled and chatted with dh and dc's, mn, chatted to a couple of friends, had a bath and now I'm having a cuppa and I'm feeling bad because I should be getting on with the painting I have started at art class the other day, I'm going to give it to my friend for christmas but here I am just sat here. I'm taking dc's to the library in a bit and I'm working tonight so I'm running out of time....still sat here though.......think I'm worried I can't do the painting I wanted to do because I'm not skilled/ confident enough....hummmm

Quiltingmoomin · 13/11/2010 17:33

I have to have a deadline and then I burn the midnight oil to meet it LoveMyGirls - so long as its fun it doesn't matter though - sounds like you've had a lovely day Grin

Laughing at the last two posts!! Yes, I have had the guilt both ways sadly! Constance you are so lucky. My nanny taught me to sew on her singer-one of those lovely clever ones that turn upside down so theres a flat surface when you're not using it. It left the family when she died despite my mam being her only daughter - I get sad/angry every time I think about it. Enjoy your lovely machine..:)
