Has anyone made a bunk bed tent? or know where i can buy one that doesn't look like a Gitmo prison cell?

Ikea Wembley had one on the top bunk on Friday, looked a little like this. It looked really nice when I was there.

oh cheers, thanks. our ceilings are ginormous so it's not the top so much as the bottom that i want. you know, to make a little house using the bottom bunk?

HF - I've never seen those before. How lovely. Sorry Aitch my post wasn't terribly helpful then Blush

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2010 21:40

don't be daft, i am very grateful. Smile
thanks for the thuka illo, that helps with my plan, but i think they are too expensive as is. see what i mean about lack of illo on the instructions, i thought someone would have done a step by step.

m and s in the end, of course. a nice man came and put them up... just thought that saving a hundred quid might be something we'd regret seeing as we need the beds to last the girls for the next decade or so...

i have pondered making them but decided my upper bunk girl would be too jealous.

i thought i would attach all the panels with curtain wire, just sew a channel and weight the panels with lead string curtain weights.

M and S ones are ver nice indeed.

HuckingFell · 07/11/2010 21:54

oooh

HuckingFell · 07/11/2010 21:57

too narrow?

Bumperlicious · 07/11/2010 21:58

Do you need a permanent solution? We spent most of our childhood with a duvet shoved over our bunks!

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2010 21:59

oooooooooooooh. must go and measure up the bed tomorrow... thanks!

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2010 22:11

oh yes that could be great! our beds are proper single beds, i wonder if that is too? good value for £25, i reckon, eh?

(btw how are you finding these, i was actually on the next site and still coulnd't find this...)

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2010 22:13

hmm, they look to fit a bed 5cm less than ours, but that is far from insurmountable.

Could you just get some fabric and hang it with one of those wire things used for net curtains? If you were feeling mega crafty you could get some see through material & make a window.

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2010 22:20

i cooooooould, but it would cost me more than £25 in fabric and faffing, i think. as it is i'm going to have to buy extra velcro. Grin Shock thanks hucking, i think this is great.

You could do that in plain canvas, get some fabric paints and let the kids paint a design on the outside if you were feeling really creative.

kellestar · 09/11/2010 14:37

Net curtain wire works just as well. Dunelm do kits, with wire [plastic coated] hooks and eyelets. You can then hang in panels that can be pulled back/tied back. I had this when I was 14 and sharing with my 4 yr old sister. She had the bottom bunk, which was easier to attach the panels to the top bunk. We had to be a bit more cunning with the top bunk. But mum made a wood frame to settle over the top to support the panels.
