Good, simple hat pattern please

Hello

I am having problems finding a hat I really want to knit for me! I have knitted 2 for dd and if I was smart enough to make the pattern big enough for me I would do that!

One was great, knitted in a cotton/wool mix with a roll at the brim...

I'd like one knitted on needles from 3 to 6 in size, just fairly plain... but pretty!

Anyone know of any patterns?

I've been making hats lately, knitting in the round. You can just change a pattern for your dd - I can help you do that, if you like. If you just work out how big around your daughter's head is, and how big yours is, just make it that much bigger, IYSWIM.

If you tell me how many stitches you cast on for your daughters hat, and her and your head measurements, then I can tell you how many stitches you need to do for your hat.

Thanks NQC, dd is asleep and I can't find a size on the pattern, only says for 1-2 years. I'll give you the measurements as soon as she wakes up.

It is annoying, I am sure I should be able to do it myself!

hey, just measured dd, her head is aprox 18.5" and mine is 22.5".

For dds hat I cast on 91 stitches on 3.25 needles and then changed to 4s. Knitted stocking stitch till about 8" and then started the decreasing part...

What do you think NQC?

I love this thread title

it sounds very miss marple

Ok, so your hat is 1.216x bigger than your DDs (22.5/18.5). So, if you want to use the same yarn and needles and method, you should do 91x1.216 stitches = 110 stitches. You need to do SS until the hat is about 9.7" long (8"/18.5"x22.5"). Then decrease in the normal way: if you're initially doing k2tog every 8 stitches, do it every 8 stitches in your hat etc - your hat will take more rows to reduce down to icord or whatever you do at the end, but that's fine.

I'm giving you the maths here, so you can understand how to do it yourself, too. If there's part that doesn't make sense, ask.

Or if you want to do it in a different yarn etc ... it does get nasty there, though, I'm always having problems with ribs being too big etc.

Thanks NQC, it is making perfect sense to me now!

Think I will be using the same yarn so shouldn't be problem.

Thanks again.
