Hi there,
My MIL is an avid knitter and is about to begin knitting in ernest for DD, due Jan. This is great by me, but I want to make sure that our child will not be, well to put it bluntly dressed a bit geeky. Can anyone suggest some modern patterns for me to get for her, most of hers were from when she was knitting for DH 30 years ago.
Thanks!

Erika Knight does lovely books of baby patterns. And anything with a title like "Organic Kids' Knits" will be far classier than "Precious Crochet for Darling Baby-Boos" Grin

Any of the Debbie Bliss ones look lovely and modern. I think a lot of it is what yarn you choose, as well as the pattern. I used old patterns for my DS, but did them in nice cottons instead of nasty acrylic wool combos. Congratulations on DD!

Patons have some nice stuff which is a bit cheaper than Debbie Bliss (although DB is very gorgeous - this is her latest book but there are loads if you search on Amazon)

Nursery Days or Moda are both good ones with a bit more colour. There are others on the Coats website.

Alternatively there is a magazine out at the moment which is full of baby knits - I think you can get it from WH Smiths but I can't find a link.

Your best bet though, is probably to go to a yarn shop or a department store with a knitting section and have a look at the patterns for yourself - there are so many you need to find a look that you like. Have fun!! Smile

Thanks everyone,
I was cruising the net and then remembered that there are not one but two yarn shops in my town. Went to one and got a Debbie Bliss book to get her started. You are def right though, its all about the yarn, there are still some horrors out there.

I met one of the ladies from MillaMia at an event recently and have fallen in love with their stuff. They do yarn AND patterns and it's easily available from their website.

Once i've finished DD's Christmas stocking, I'm making a start on the Gabriella jumper and have requested a copy of the other book and the yarn to make a Cecilia coat for Christmas.

MillaMia yarn is the same weight etc as DB baby cashmerino too so you can switch yarns :)
