I'm relatively new to quilting. It has become somewhat of a very expensive addictionBlush
Does anyone have a recommendation about which thimble to use There are so many different types I am rather confused.
ThanksSmile

I'm not a huge fan of thimbles as I tend to put it on my finger and then, probably because I can't feel what I am doing any more, keep the thimbled finger out of the way and use my other fingers to guide the needle, making the thimble totally redundant. Blush

However, I do find it a bit easier if I use a leather one because they are more flexible. Something like the ones on this page. They are near the top. Sorry I can't link to the leather ones individually. I won't let me!! The other advantage is that they aren't as slippery as the metal or plastic ones.

I have fancied trying the ones that seem to be just a sticky pad, like the Thimble It ones about 1/3rd of the way down. They look very minimalist and I am less likely to keep my finger out of the way in those.

'It (the website) won't let me' not 'I won't let me'! Sorry

Thanks so much! Yes I like the look of the sticky pad ones too. This hobby is costing me a fortune. Ah all those fabrics. I went on a jelly roll course last weekend it was great. Just bought another roll from ebay oh dear!

Tell me about it. I have more fabric than I can possibly use but I think that is a common complaint for quilters or crafters in general. I have an awful lot of wool too.Blush

I got some lovely stuff at the National Quilt Show in June that I really should do something with. A layer cake from Hannah's Room I'm mentioning it as I thought it was relatively cheap and easy to put together and it comes with its own pattern! I got a jelly roll too althought I can't remember the shops name - that was very cheap too.

Who are you buying from on ebay, it that isn't too nosy a question? Is it an ebay shop?

kittywise · 15/10/2010 06:56

Hi Niecie, this is one of the people I by from shop.ebay.co.uk/carrottspatch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25

Hmm , I think the quilt show is quite near me, which is lucky or disastrous depending on the state of my financesGrin
It's nice to talk to another quilter, I don't know anyone else doing this.
When I was a girl I spent a lot of time in the holidays with some of my Aunts in Shrewsbury. They and my gran were addicted to wools, fabrics, embroidery and cross stitch. I leant to do all of it when staying with them, sewing, knitting and crotchet. They had trunks full of fabrics and wool!

You tend to find that if somebody does one craft they do several others too don't you? It seems it you like craft, you like to have a dabble at lots of them! I do knitting but my current obsession is crochet, probably because after trying to learn it, on and off for years, I have finally got the hang of it! Problem is all my nooks and crannies are groaning with various bits of stash! I do seem to like things that produce something though - not that into cross stitch for example because all you get is a picture at the end. I would make rather have a quilt or a jumper or a bag to show for my troubles.

Thanks for the link to the ebay shop - it isn't one I have heard of before. I quite like their moda stuff. This is one of my favourites although I haven't used her for a while. I have too much from the Sandown Park show!

Have you done a patchwork and quilting course? I can recommend it if you get the chance. I have done 3 now! I seem to do them at 6 yr intervals when I haven't done anything for a while and have lost my confidence. It has been interesting that all three have been very different and they were fun too.

Hope you get some crafting done this weekend. I am off to the local yarn shop in a minute - they have 10% off because Hobbycraft have just opened a shop in the town and they are fighting for market share! I am probably more excited than is healthy to have so many lovely stores practically within walking distance! Blush

Oh sorry that was a bit long. Blush

Comes of living in a house with 3 males - they aren't in the least bit interested in anything crafty!!
