Where to get outfit from for Book CHaracter Day

My DD is nearly 7 but is very tall for her age so is in age 10-11 yr old clothes (This does not bode well for the next 4 years does it.....? Shock)

Anyway,

She has set her heart on being Alice In Wonderland for Book Character Day on Oct 8th.

I have looked on-line only to find that nearly all the outfits only go up to age 10, and to make matters worse, they are all 'a small fitting'. Some of the companies are having a laugh, with P&P costing nearly as much as the damn outfit!

I'm a SM, I work full time & do shifts, so 'running up an outfit' is out of the question.

I went to one of the big supermarkets only to find that they had loads of Halloween stuff but nothing else.

Short of persuading her to be Winnie the Witch, I'm at my wits end. I have a week. Help please!

Can you find something in a charity shop? Any frilly dress and an apron will do and ribbon for the hair.

secretsquirrel1 · 29/09/2010 18:30

That's my job for Fri before a night shift...wouls be interested to hear how everyone else manages!

I've looked at adult size Alice costumes for you to see if you could adapt a costume but they are horrendous!

Nuttybear · 29/09/2010 18:40

I would love to be Winnie the witch but wear would you get those cool tights for an adult.
Apron
blousel

I think befriend someone in a charity shop or just buy the apron if you have a blue blouse and skirt put bows all over the place and your done I think

secretsquirrel1 · 29/09/2010 23:27

Thank you Scurry & Nutty - yes, I saw some of the , er ahem adult costumes....well I don't think I will be bothering with any of them Grin.

I am still looking but any ideas gratefully received.

Hi my daughter went as a witch from 'The witches' by Roald Dhal.Meant she could look like an ordinary witch.I persuaded her by letting her wear one of my floaty black evening dresses and my old black boots.Made her feel grownup.

blue dress or
white blouse with collar & blue skirt
old fashioned pinnie

secretsquirrel1 · 30/09/2010 18:49

LM, SW & Mrs B, I'm nearly in tears with gratitude. Thankyou all so much - there is a light at the end of this ghastly tunnel.

Now to make you laugh....I must be the only person on Gods Earth who has never ever done ebay before. That's why I haven't mentioned trying it.

What is the drill for getting started with ebay? Is it easy to do? Blush

first step is to get a paypal account - v easy if you have a credit card

secretsquirrel1 · 01/10/2010 10:07

Thanks, Mrs B. Will go onto ebay and set it up.

Oh, and now the little madam has started to make noises about being Little Red Riding Hood...........Gggaaahh! Grin

OK, done it Smile - and have now found a Red Riding outfit 10-14yr old; the only Alice ones were 'grown up' ones....

Thank you all for your help and ideas.

Now I can see why people spend a lot of time on ebay....it could be pretty addictive!
