Crochet baby beanies - best pattern?

I'm keen to churn out a bunch of baby/kiddie beanie hats.

I've been using this pattern but where you join it make a kind of point where you are always increasing at the same stage. I want an nice simple pattern that doesn't look wonky, that I can easily scale up or down according to age.

This is another that I have found which may be ok, but I don't want to turn them up. The major difference is the first one starts small and after the first 3 or so row you do one increase every row to build up size, the second builds up the size on the first 4 rows then you crochet the same no. of stitches till the end, I wonder if that will look a bit square.

Any tips?

I have a self invented pattern that's never been written down. One day I will put it on Rav. I start with a chain generous enough to go around babies head, I then join and crochet in the round, no increases or decreases for a few rows. I then shape to suit, sometimes having to unravel, until it looks right. I find a honeydew melon a really good model for a baby hat. They've got some acorn hat's in the latest interweave crochet, I'll have a look at the pattern as that one was working from the brim up as well. And would look cute on a little one.
