Ribbons

I have a large box full of ribbons that I use for wrapping up presents.

Is there anything else I can use them for? Plaiting or weaving something? I have enough of them to wrap thousands of presents and they are so pretty so I would like to use them for something I could keep and not give away.

Any ideas?

How about making ribbon cushions... a number of my chums have had them for Christmas and birthdays.

Cut out a square of Vilene (medium weight or heavier)to slightly larger than the cushion size you require... I usually allow an inch extra all round... so a 12" cushion would require a 14" square.

Then using a cork board, weave the ribbons and pin each end to the Vilene.

When you have completed your weaving, iron the ribbon onto the Vilene.

Sew around the the outside to firmly attach the ribbon.

Now you have the front of a cushion pad... make up the back with a matching or contrasting chintz (works well as chintz fabrics have a sheen which complements ribbons). Continue to make up your cushion. Insert pad.

Place cushion on the sofa and watch the compliments roll in... simples!

And if my instructions are not clear enough, try this uktv.co.uk/home/stepbystep/aid/1168

You could also make a french notice board: jdorganizer.blogspot.com/2008/12/bulletin-board-alternative-french.html

Do you have an overlocker. There is a way of producing a sort of tuck with ladder-like stitching across and you can thread fine, about 3-4mm wide, ribbon through. Looks really good on cushions.

Sorry for crap description, not used overlocker for ages so can't remember what it's called.

I've sewn the ends together to make a long length and then crocheted a bracelet or french knitted a cord [you know with the little wooden dolly] which make alternative necklaces. I'm also using some consistent thickness scraps up to make a crochet bag up as well. Ends all sewn neatly together. It's my diet alternative, why give up good things when you can just keep your hands busy enough to not need them all the time.

Good idea! Kellstar
