G'd morning all

i am suffering from raging toothache and incapable of doing much so thought i'd use the time to play with the Sizzix machine i got for my b/day way back in mid-july. i have a couple of questions that you experts may be able to help with...

how far down do you push the handle?
do you cut more than one at once?
if there is more than one design on your design do you have to cut them all each time? ie. are you damaging it by not cutting anyhting and hence cutting the plastic thingy(its name escapes me)

any other handy hints for someone who can't think striaight cos of pain in face!!

No clues on the Sizzix stuff, but hope you're feeling much better tooth-wise very soon, AQ xxxxxx

AuntyQuated · 01/09/2005 11:45

thanks HM

another question, how successful are the sizzlits and the convertor. can you still only do thin card? i have had success with the stocking sizzlit but 'joy' is bringing me no JOY whatsoever

Hi AQ! hope toothache has subsided.
push handle down all the way or until you feel resistance.
you can cut quite a few bits at a time, more if cutting paper as opposed to card.
when using dies with more than one design, i cut only the part that i'm going to use at the time.

a hint to save paper/card is cut it down to just bigger than shape.

AuntyQuated · 01/09/2005 15:58

hi champs.

thank you. i am worried that i am putting too much presuure on as sometimes the die cuts are stuck to the plastic thngy, but if i put less presuure on it doesn't cut properley

how is your LO btw?

OP posts:
champs · 01/09/2005 16:09

takes a few cuts for it to get used in

LO is fine thanks, he's sleeping at mo as is ds2, who's lying on my lap. how's your fam? i posted a ty for your lovely card on my anouncement thread but want to thank you now too while you're here

champs · 01/09/2005 16:56

you need a diff convertor to the one used for sizzlits and embossing folders.
i am going to get some of them too, you get 10 in a pack. and you can use all thin dies in your sizzix.

AuntyQuated · 01/09/2005 16:59

oh, i didn't know that champs; what is the other one? packs of 10? you have confused me ; it doen't take a lot.

Sometimes if you are cutting and the dies arent cutting "clean" try adding a shim under the white cutting mat...(what is the correct name for the white plastic board???)

champs · 01/09/2005 18:18

hi hausfrau!! artbase? yep they're really good. I visit the lakeside shop when i'm there and they are so nice in there.
how are you? how's the scrapping going?

jayzmummy · 01/09/2005 19:05

Best site around IMO....staff are really friendly and always phone to tell me order is on its way and they have popped a couple of extra bits in for me to try out.....DH says so they should with the ammount I spend there
You need a good hour to really have a good look around the site...lots of there papers are cheaper than anywhere else and their bazzil card stock is wonderful....all 360+ colours!!!!

Dingle · 01/09/2005 19:10

Just got my first few (second hand) quickutz dies to use in my sizzix. You need the convertor and the little black adaptors. Don't be taken for a fool and buy 1 adaptor on ebay, you get them in pack of 10 for about £4!

Borrowed a few dies from a friend, so I have been cutting loads of little bags, shoes and boots!

Have fun ladies!!!

Yes my sizzix has tons of shims in it now. Some dies cut through better than others. I cut as many thicknesses as it will take, it really saves time if you have a lot of cuts to do. Some thin papers will cut four at a time.

I also struggle a bit with sizzlits, have to put so much pressure on them you can see them starting to crack. I don't buy them any more.

Also I have found that my sizzix machine is becoming loose - the cutting block may be rattled from side to side on the base now. Anyone else found this? There are no visible screws or anything to tighten it down again. I think it's just a major amount of use.

To answer your other question AQ, I sometimes only cut one item from a large die with two or three shapes on it. The cutters always go into the pad anyway, once they've pierced the card or paper.

AuntyQuated · 02/09/2005 11:06

thanks anorak. i'm glad it isn't just me with the sizzlits!

i secretly bought myself a sidekick then when dh bought the sizzix i didn't say anyhting and hid the sidekick i hid it so well that i can't find it now and i haven't used it properley, maybe the sizzlits would be better in there (if i could find it)

off to search

Perhaps its under the pile of stuff next to the table....!

AuntyQuated · 02/09/2005 13:25

Dingle · 02/09/2005 13:36

I have just been GIVEN a couple of die by a cyber crafter who didin't use them! I don't know how much I will use them either but I wasn't i a position to say no!

Will update my swap list ASAP. I now have bitty girls hair, dogs bowl and bone. I also a a few quickutz; long bow, candy hearts and flip flops!

If anyone wants any, just shout!

AQ, sort out that pile! You know you want to. You never know what you might find!

champs · 02/09/2005 17:33
